Individual treatment selection for patients with post-traumatic stress disorder: External validation of a personalised advantage index.

OBJECTIVE: To test the predictive accuracy and generalisability of a personalised advantage index (PAI) model designed to support treatment selection for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). METHOD: A PAI model developed by Deisenhofer et al. (2018) was used to predict treatment outcomes in a statistically independent dataset including archival records for N = 152 patients with PTSD who accessed either trauma-focussed cognitive behavioural therapy or eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing in routine care. Outcomes were compared between patients who received their PAI-indicated optima

A biomarker of brain arousal mediates the intergenerational link between maternal and child post-traumatic stress disorder.

This study examined whether there is a biological basis in the child's resting brain activity for the intergenerational link between maternal interpersonal violence-related posttraumatic stress disorder (IPV-PTSD) and child subclinical symptoms. We used high-density EEG recordings to investigate the resting brain activity in a sample of 57 children, 34 from mothers with IPV-PTSD, and 23 from mothers without PTSD. These children were part of a prospective, longitudinal study focusing on the offspring of mothers with and without IPV-PTSD, reporting how the severity of a mother's IPV-PTSD can imp

Potential Neurophysiological Markers of Combat-Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A Cross-Sectional Diagnostic Study.

BACKGROUND: Studies suggest that the components of brain-evoked potentials (EPs) may serve as biomarkers of the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) caused by participation in combat operations; however, to date, research remains fragmented, with no studies that have attempted to combine different paradigms. In addition, the mismatch negativity component has not been studied in a Russian sample of veterans with PTSD. AIM: To identify objective neurophysiological markers of combat-related PTSD using the method of auditory-evoked potentials in active and passive listening paradigms. METHODS:

[Post-traumatic stress disorder in refugees and therapeutic interventions based on cognitive behavioral approach: A systematic review].

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is connected with the experience of traumatic events and is significantly related to war and forced displacement. Refugee populations are characterized by a high degree of vulnerability for the development of PTSD, as they are confronted with stressors associated with all three distinct phases of migratory journey. The present article is an attempt to systematic review the therapeutic interventions based on the Cognitive Behavioral Approach and applied to refugees diagnosed with PTSD. For this reason, a review of the international literature was carried ou

Causal Relationship Between Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Immune Cell Traits: A Mendelian Randomization Study.

INTRODUCTION: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating psychological disorder that occurs after exposure to catastrophic-level experiences. Although alterations in immune function have been identified in individuals with PTSD, the causal relationship between the two remains unclear. METHODS: To investigate the causal relationship between PTSD and immune function, we conducted the forward and backward two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses, based on summary-level genome-wide association studies (GWAS) data on PTSD and immune cell traits. RESULTS: For the forward MR an

Does Trauma Change the Way Individuals with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Deal with Positive Stimuli?

INTRODUCTION: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a highly prevalent disorder and a highly debilitating condition. Although current theories focused on depressed mood and intrusion as critical dimensions, the mechanism through which depression increases the risk of PTSD remains unclear. Research usually concentrates on the hyperactive negative valence system (NVS) (e.g., increased fear and threat responses), but some evidence suggests a significant role for the hypoactive positive valence system (PVS) (e.g., less neural activation towards rewards). METHOD: The main aim of the present res

Correlation Between Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Sleep Hygiene in Adults Surviving the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes.

On February 6, 2023, two major earthquakes with magnitudes of 7,7 and 7,6 struck the Kahramanmaraş region in Turkey. Over 50.000 people lost their lives and more than half a million buildings were damaged as a result of these earthquakes. Earthquake survivors may develop post-traumatic stress disorder and sleep hygiene problems. This study aims to evaluate the correlation between post-traumatic stress and sleep hygiene among surviving adults six months after the February 6th Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes in Turkey. This study was conducted with 1004 earthquake survivors in 11 provinces influenced

The epigenetic changes are affected by sex and valproic acid treatment in a rat model of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) presents distinct sex-specific differences in both symptom expression and treatment outcomes, with the underlying biological mechanisms still remain unclear. Epigenetic modifications, particularly histone acetylation, have been increasingly recognized as critical factors in the pathophysiology of PTSD. Valproic acid (VPA), a potent histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, has shown promise in modulating epigenetic responses and improving therapeutic outcomes is PTSD, though its effect may differ between sexes. This study aimed to explore the sex-specific epig

Bidirectional analysis of the association between migraine and post-traumatic stress disorder in Nurses' Health Study II.

AIMS: Migraine and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are both twice as common in women as men. Cross-sectional studies have shown associations between migraine and several psychiatric conditions, including PTSD. PTSD is disproportionally common among patients in headache clinics, and individuals with migraine and PTSD report greater disability from migraines and more frequent medication use. To further clarify the nature of the relationship between PTSD and migraine, we conducted bidirectional analyses of the association between (1) migraine and incident PTSD and (2) PTSD and incident migr

The Relationship between Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Due to Brain Injury and Glutamate Intake: A Systematic Review.

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests a connection between traumatic brain injury (TBI) and subsequent post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While the exact mechanism is unknown, we hypothesize that chronic glutamate neurotoxicity may play a role. The consumption of dietary glutamate is a modifiable factor influencing glutamate levels in the blood and, therefore, in the brain. In this systematic review, we explored the relationship between dietary glutamate and the development of post-TBI PTSD. Of the 1748 articles identified, 44 met the inclusion criteria for analysis in this rev

Conobolbitina is a morphologically diverse transitional genus within the Bolbitiaceae. However, taxonomic confusion persists, as some of its species remain classified under other genera, and its section Verrucisporae has been recovered as paraphyletic. This study revises the subdivision of Conobolbitina using integrated morphological and phylogenetic analyses of specimens from Jilin Province, China. A combined dataset of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS), nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA (nrLSU), and translation elongation factor 1-alpha (tef1-α) sequences was analyzed using maximum lik

The amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations is correlated with birth trauma in patients with postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder.

Postpartum post-traumatic stress disorder (PP-PTSD) is a severe mental disorder worldwide. In recent years, some studies have reported that PP-PTSD stems from birth trauma. The present study was dedicated in finding ways to predict the occurrence of emergency caesarean section (ECS), trying to analyze the methods to reduce incidence of PP-PTSD on this basis, further exploring the neuroimaging changes in PP-PTSD. A total of 245 primiparas with intention of vaginal delivery were recruited. The internal tocodynamometry measurement was performed during labor for all mothers, and respectively taken

Transcriptional signal and cell specificity of genes related to cortical structural differences of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Due to the diversity of traumatic events, the diagnosis of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder is heterogeneous. The pathogenesis has been explored in the fields of brain imaging and genomics separately, but the results are inconsistent. Previous research evidenced that there existed structural differences between PTSD and healthy controls in multiple brain regions. This study further looked into the differences of brain structure in PTSD at the whole brain level and analyzed the difference-related genomes. The brain structure imaging data of 36 patients and 32 healthy controls were taken as morpho

Supplementary Pharmacotherapy for the Behavioral Abnormalities Caused by Stressors in Humans, Focused on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Used as a supplement to psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy that addresses all of the known metabolic and genetic contributions to the pathogenesis of psychiatric conditions caused by stressors would require an inordinate number of drugs. Far simpler is to address the abnormalities caused by those metabolic and genetic changes in the cell types of the brain that mediate the behavioral abnormality. Relevant data regarding the changed brain cell types are described in this article and are derived from subjects with the paradigmatic behavioral abnormality of PTSD and from subjects with traumatic brain
