BACKGROUND: Bronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS) is a malformation of the lungs resulting in lung tissue lacking direct communication to the tracheobronchial tree. Most cases demonstrate systemic arterial blood supply from the descending thoracic aorta, the abdominal aorta, celiac axis or splenic artery and venous drainage via the pulmonary veins with occasional drainage into azygos vein. A method of video-assisted thoracic surgical (VATS) right upper lobectomy with bronchus-first and simultaneous vessel stapling will be introduced. In this study, all cases underwent two-port VATS as follows: first, the right upper lobe bronchus was identified and stapled; then, all right upper lobe vessels were stapled simultaneously. This method was performed in 50 cases. There was no surgical mortality, hemorrhage, vascular injuries, or conversion. This technique can reduce wound size and operative time and make the operation safer and easier to accomplish.

Hyperparathyroidism can induce fatal complications in long-term hemodialysis patients. Approximately 20% of patients with hyperparathyroidism have ectopic mediastinal parathyroid glands, and the locations of 2% require a median sternotomy or thoracotomy. A 68-year-old man with an ectopic parathyroid gland in the thymus, underwent total resection via a video-assisted mediastinoscopic approach, which provides a less invasive surgical approach.
