This study aimed to evaluate the fracture resistance of teeth with simulated internal root resorption cavities filled with calcium silicate-based cements (CSCs). Seventy-two extracted central incisor teeth had their crowns removed to standardize the root length to 14 mm. The teeth were randomized into six groups (n = 12 each), including a positive control (with no simulated resorption cavities) and negative control (with no filling) group. To simulate internal root resorption cavities, cavities were made along the 6 mm section using a number 10 round bur on groups. In four groups, artificially

UNLABELLED: The treatment of complicated crown root fracture in children possesses a great challenge to pedodontists. A 10-year-old boy presented with trauma to the permanent maxillary left central incisor. Upon clinical and radiographic examination, revealed mobility of coronal fragment, open apex, and vertical fracture involving enamel dentin and pulp. Instead of the standard root canal treatment protocol, revascularization was performed after stabilizing the coronal fragment. The detachment of the coronal fragment occurred following a fall for the second time after 1 month of placement of m

These case reports describe traumatic dental injuries affecting maxillary permanent central incisors in young children, which may lead to pulp necrosis with or without apical periodontitis. Immature teeth with necrotic pulp are very challenging to treat because of their short and thin dentinal walls, open apices, and broad root canals that make them weak and prone to fracture, which can ultimately render the tooth unrestorable and require extraction. Apexification has traditionally been the treatment of choice for such cases; however, recently, regenerative and revascularization procedures hav

BACKGROUND: Orthodontic tooth movement is linked to alveolar bone reconstruction.
OBJECTIVES: As a regulator of cell proliferation, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) plays an important role in osteoporotic fracture healing. This study aims to investigate the effect of IGF-1 on alveolar bone remodeling in diabetic rats.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into 3 groups, including a control group, a model group established with streptozotocin (STZ) injection to prepare the diabetic rats (type 1 diabetes), and an IGF-1 group of diabetic rats receiving daily i

This article discusses the diagnosis and treatment of pulp involved teeth. There are still some patients and some older physicians who associate certain systemic diseases with dead teeth. For this reason, the subject of focal infection is considered first. As many patients with facial pain or dental infection present first to their physician, it is important for the medical practitioner to understand the cause and its treatment. Finally, brief reference is made to the treatment of teeth injured as a result of trauma with special emphasis on first aid where permanent teeth have become dislodged

This prospective clinical study evaluated the survival of indirect, posterior fiber-reinforced composite fixed dental prosthesis (FRC FDP). Between June-1999 and June- 2000, 58 patients received 65 FCR FDPs made of unidirectional E-glass fibers (Vectris) veneered with resin composite (Signum) that were adhesively cemented (Variolink II). The evaluation protocol involved technical (chipping, debonding or fracture of tooth/restoration) and biological failures (caries, endodontic complications). Altogether, 6 technical failures were observed after a mean observation time of 180 months (survival r

Single-tooth implantation has become a common treatment solution for replacement of a root-fractured maxillary incisor in adults, but the long-term esthetic results can be unfavorable due to progressive marginal bone loss, resulting in gingival recession. In this case report, a maxillary central incisor with a root fracture in its apical one-third was orthodontically extruded and extracted in a 21-year-old female. Implant surgery was performed after a 3-month healing period, and the final crown was placed about 12 months after extraction. After 12 years, favorable osseous and gingival architec

Intra-radicular posts are routinely used in restoring endodontically treated teeth to enhance retention and evenly distribute functional loads. The material of the post plays a critical role in stress transmission within the tooth and supporting structures, directly influencing long-term prognosis. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate stress distribution patterns among different post materials, specifically fiber-reinforced composite, cast metal and stainless steel posts. Fiber posts, due to their modulus of elasticity similar to dentin, showed more favorable stress dispersion and reduced

The cementodentinal tear is rarely detected by noninvasive procedures owing to its clinical picture simulating a root fracture or a periodontal or endodontic lesion. We present a case of complex cementodentinal tears in a 79-year-old woman who presented a repeated swelling at the labial mucosa of the left maxillary central incisor for 6 months. Periapical radiographs demonstrated a vertical radiolucent fracture line extending from the root apex along the mesial aspect of the root to near the middle portion of the root of the left maxillary central incisor. Because endodontic re-treatment faile

Reconstruction of comminuted Le Fort I fractures is difficult when the tooth-bearing maxilla is divided into multiple fragments and stable skeletal landmarks are limited. The authors describe a hybrid physical-digital planning strategy that uses industrial plasticine as a reversible provisional stabilizer during assembly of 3-dimensionally printed fracture fragments. The dentate fragments are first oriented according to dental arch form, intercuspation, fracture-line morphology, and residual stable anatomy. Small amounts of plasticine are then applied only to the printed models, permitting rep

The alveolar bone has a unique capacity to follow the teeth's movements. It is formed around erupting teeth and their periodontal ligaments: the more the teeth have erupted, the larger the alveolar process. Throughout life the teeth erupt and migrate in an occlusal and mesial direction to compensate for attrition, an evolutionary trait. After tooth extraction, the alveolar process is resorbed to varying degrees. The mandibular alveolar bone mirrors skeletal bone condition. Due to fast bone turnover (which is the fastest in the whole skeleton), low bone mass and increased fracture risk may firs

Trichorrhexis nodosa (TN) is a common hair shaft disorder characterised by node-like fracture points due to structural weakening. It can be congenital or acquired, with the latter often linked to physical or chemical trauma. This report presents a case of localised acquired TN in a teenage boy with asymptomatic white nodes over the parietal scalp. The condition was attributed to repetitive friction from a specific combing habit using a pocket-sized plastic-bristled comb. Trichoscopy revealed white nodules and broken shafts with a classic 'paintbrush' appearance, while light microscopy confirme

Mandibular fractures in cats are relatively common and likely to cause malocclusion. Maxillomandibular fixation and internal fixation with plates and screws are among the described repair methods in the literature. Interosseous wiring and interdental splints are surgical techniques indicated for simple and stable fractures. The purpose of this study was to compare the mechanical stability of 2 caudal mandibular transverse fracture repair techniques using interosseous wires and acrylic interdental splints. Technique 1-Interosseous-to-Interosseous Wire Technique (IIWT) involved fracture stabiliz

BACKGROUND/AIM: The objectives of this study were to histopathologically evaluate cementum regeneration on root surfaces when an enamel matrix derivative (EMD) was used to bond a vertically fractured root and to evaluate the effectiveness of EMD in inhibiting root resorption.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 40 roots from 24 maxillary premolars in beagles were used. The root was vertically fractured using a chisel and mallet. Super-Bond was then used to bond the fractured root. In the experimental group, the root surface was treated with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and an EMD. The control

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The biomechanical properties of post systems may become more important as the amount of remaining tooth structure decreases, thus different materials may influence the characteristic strength of fatigued endodontically treated teeth.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess the characteristic strength and probability of survival of endodontically treated teeth restored with different intraradicular post systems.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty human maxillary canines with similar root lengths were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=10): cast post and core, stainless-
