We report a 38-year-old female of Puerto Rican descent with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome and decreased levels of von Willebrand factor. Histologic and ultrastructural findings of non-sunexposed skin showed melanocytes with short dendritic processes and decreased numbers of melanosomes. Ultrastructural examination of platelets revealed greatly reduced numbers of delta granules. Recognition of this syndrome is important because skin neoplasms, ceroid deposition and hemorrhagic manifestations can be causes of morbidity and of potential death in patients affected with this syndrome.

A case of post-operative spindle cell nodule arising in the vulva of a 33-year old woman is reported and the relevant literature reviewed. This is an uncommon, benign lesion which develops soon after a surgical procedure and which is composed of mitotically active spindle cells, causing possible confusion with sarcoma. Knowledge of the clinical history and an awareness of the existence of such lesions is necessary in order to avoid misinterpretation.

An 11-year-old spayed female Miniature Schnauzer dog was presented with loss of a claw caused by a nail bed mass. Histopathological evaluation revealed that the mass comprised neoplastic squamous cells with abundant cytoplasmic melanin pigment. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive for cytokeratin and negative for vimentin and ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1, supporting a diagnosis of pigmented squamous cell carcinoma. To our knowledge, this is the first report of subungual pigmented squamous cell carcinoma in animals.

PEComas localized in the region of falciform ligament and broad ligament are exceedingly rare. Most of them are built of spindle neoplastic cells. We report a case of epithelioid PEComa of the falciform ligament and/or broad ligament. There is only one report of such neoplasm in English-language literature. Histologically, the tumor was composed of nests of epithelioid clear cells stained positively for vimentin, HMB45, and SMA. Because of morphological features of the tumour (4 mitoses /20HPF, focal necrosis, and vascular invasion) we assess the neoplasm as potentially malignant.
