INTRODUCTION: Rural communities face shortages of health care professionals, leading to reduced access to care and increased patient mortality. While prior studies have identified factors that positively influence recruitment and retention, limited research has examined how community characteristics shape these experiences. Authors of this study aimed to better understand the role of community characteristics in recruiting and retaining rural health care professionals in Kansas.
METHODS: In-depth interviews were conducted with physicians, advanced practice providers (APPs), and nurses working

BACKGROUND: Clinical Decision Support Systems (CDSSs) are acknowledged as tools that leverage health data analytics to support clinical decision-making; however, systematic evidence regarding their deployment in pediatric oncology remains limited. This gap in the literature gives rise to unique challenges, particularly in addressing the individualized nature of pediatric cancer diagnosis, treatment, and the "doctor-nurse-patient" tripartite decision-making.
AIM: To synthesize evidence on the application of CDSSs in the management of pediatric cancer patients, elucidate prevailing patterns of

INTRODUCTION: Given the opioid epidemic in the US, it is vital that clinicians who prescribe opioids for pain management to do so in an evidence-based manner, eg considering all pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic options, assessing risk of opioid use disorder prior to initiating opioids. Continuing education regarding the evidence-based prescribing of opioids is now required for US healthcare providers who prescribe opioids. A "blueprint" of the content to be included in continuing education programs was developed by the US Food and Drug Administration and updated in 2018.

BACKGROUND: Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) is a common therapy for many hematologic malignancies. While advances in transplant practice have improved cancer-specific outcomes, multiple and debilitating long term physical and psychologic effects remain. Patients undergoing allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (allo-BMT) are often critically ill at initial diagnosis and with necessary sequential treatments become increasingly frail and deconditioned. Despite modern treatment regimens and support, cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of non-relapse mortality among allo

The Japanese Respiratory Society published the Adult Pneumonia Practice Guidelines 2024 in April 2024. In Japan, a super-aged society, the disease burden of pneumonia is significant and is expected to grow in the future. Given this historical context, the most important themes in this revision of the guidelines include the appropriate use of antibiotics and measures against pneumonia in older adults. A large portion of these cases involves aspiration pneumonia, making it challenging to achieve fundamental improvement with antibiotic treatment alone and necessitating a comprehensive approach. P

BACKGROUND: Breathlessness is a common and distressing symptom affecting many patients with advanced disease both from malignant and non-malignant origin. A combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures is necessary to treat this symptom successfully. Breathlessness services in various compositions aim to provide comprehensive care for patients and their carers by a multiprofessional team but their effectiveness and cost-effectiveness have not yet been proven. The Breathlessness Support Service (BSS) is a newly created multiprofessional and interdisciplinary outpatient servic

INTRODUCTION: Pain is a frequent complaint in emergency departments (ED), particularly among polytrauma patients, who often experience high levels of pain. The Advanced Trauma Life Support protocol is widely used to assess such patients, prioritizing life-threatening conditions through the ABCDE approach. However, pain documentation is often insufficient, and analgesia administration is frequently delayed, even in conscious patients able to report their pain.
OBJECTIVES: This project aimed to promote evidence-based practices for pain assessment and management in an emergency trauma room.
