Bronchopulmonary sequestration is an unusual congenital malformation consisting of abnormal lung tissue that lacks normal communication with the tracheobronchial tree. The diagnosis of pulmonary sequestration is based on identifying this systemic arterial supply. We aimed to evaluate the sensitivity of multidetector computed tomography in demonstrating the feeding artery and draining veins. Between 2003 and 2008, 8 patients (6 males, 2 females) ranging in age from 5 to 49 years with a diagnosis of pulmonary sequestration were identified. All patients underwent evaluation with chest tomography

The authors compared the three-dimensional Fourier transform (3DFT) time-of-flight magnetic resonance (MR) angiograms in 38 patients initially studied with selective intraarterial digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for suspected arteriosclerotic disease of the carotid bifurcation. MR angiograms were successfully obtained in 65 of the 75 carotid arteries (87%) visualized with DSA. DSA and MR angiographic studies were assessed for percentage area stenosis by two independent observers on two occasions. Statistical tests indicated consistency in interpretation for each observer as well as betwe

Pure arterial malformations (PAMs) are rare vascular lesions often detected incidentally on brain imaging. They are characterised by a mass of arterial loops containing arteries that are tortuous, overlapping and dilated without any associated arteriovenous shunting. The incidence of PAMs have been rising due to the increasing use of non-invasive angiographic imaging for the diagnosis of neurovascular disorders. This article will present the clinical course of two cases of PAM, both of which demonstrated a stable appearance on surveillance imaging despite the lack of surgical or endovascular i

This case involved a 66-year-old woman with unruptured proximal middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysm that had been found 4 years earlier and followed up with annual magnetic resonance imaging examinations. Considering several risk factors for rupture, such as increasing size and irregular shape of the aneurysm, we offered clipping surgery (Video 1). Preoperative 3-dimensional digital subtraction angiography demonstrated an irregularly shaped aneurysm 6 mm in maximum diameter with multiple daughter sacs. Preoperative magnetic resonance imaging clearly showed that the aneurysm dome was buried i

We report a case of dilated azygos vein simulating a tumor in the posterior mediastinum. The patient was a 47-year-old male who was found to have anomalies of unification of the superior vena cava and absence of the left brachiocephalic vein. He was admitted to our hospital because chest radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans showed a well-circumscribed oval mass 2.5 cm in diameter, behind the bifurcation of the trachea. This lesion, which was markedly enhanced in chest CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and MR angiography (MRA) was diagnosed as a dilated azygos vein. An enlarged hem

BACKGROUND: We report a case of 39-year-old male patient with an unruptured middle cerebral artery aneurysm associated with moyamoya disease (MMD) treated by surgical clipping combined with encephalo-duro-myo-synangiosis surgery.
CASE DESCRIPTION: A 39-year-old male patient with a history of intraventricular hemorrhage was admitted to our hospital. Preoperative digital subtraction angiography (DSA) showed the aneurysm, arising from a collateral branch of the right middle cerebral artery (RMCA), had an extremely thin neck. Also present were an occlusion of the RMCA main trunk, and moyamoya ves

Bow Hunter's syndrome is a rare cause of posterior circulation ischemia, produced by the mechanical and reversible occlusion of the vertebral artery during cephalic rotation. Diagnosis requires clinical suspicion and careful inspection of images with three-dimensional reconstruction. The study of choice is dynamic digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Treatment alternatives are: medical, surgical or endovascular. We report the case of an 8-year-old boy with recurrent infarctions of the posterior circulation secondary to the dissection of the vertebral artery, in association with an occipital

Posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) aneurysms are usually complex to treat because of their deep location, frequent entanglement with the lower cranial nerves, the presence of perforating arteries to the brainstem, and their often dissecting or fusiform morphology.1 These aneurysms can require revascularization of the PICA.2 The length and size of the occipital artery (OA) make it an excellent donor.3,4 Video 1 shows the technical nuances of an OA-PICA bypass for the treatment of a ruptured fusiform aneurysm of the left PICA. The patient is a 34-year-old male presenting with an abrupt

PURPOSE: Delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) remains a contributor to poor outcome following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). We evaluated cerebral circulation time (CCT) on digital subtraction angiography (DSA) during endovascular treatment (EVT) in WFNS grade I aSAH patients as a predictor of DCI.
METHODS: Of 135 consecutive WNFS grade I aSAH patients, 90 were included. Age, gender, time of DSA from ictus (< 72 h or > 72 h), Fisher scale, severe vasospasm, development of DCI, EVD-dependent hydrocephalus, re-bleeding, and procedural complications were recorded. CCT was calculated retro

Peripheral arterial aneurysms are rare vascular pathologies characterised by focal dilatation of at least 1.5-fold relative to the diameter of the native vessel. Primary arterial aneurysms can affect any segment of the arterial trunk. Diagnostic tests include duplex sonography, CT and MR angiography, and digital subtraction angiography. It is essential that the influx and efflux to the aneurysm should be mapped as precisely as possible. The most common type of peripheral arterial aneurysms are popliteal artery aneurysms, which frequently occur with aorta aneurysms. Peripheral arterial aneurysm

BACKGROUND: Few previous hemodynamic studies demonstrated the detailed features of rupture point of intracranial aneurysms. The hemodynamic simulation for the case that ruptured during angiography was even rare. In the present study, we studied the hemodynamic characteristics of a posterior communicating artery segment aneurysm that ruptured during angiography and detailed the hemodynamic features at the rupture point.
CASE PRESENTATION: One 64-years-patient was 60-69 years old and suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage within 24 h. Standard digital subtraction angiography and three-dimensional (

BACKGROUND: Evaluating possible thromboembolic events in the non-human primate has traditionally required euthanasia, significantly limiting the ability to conduct longitudinal studies. We hypothesized that pulmonary angiography could offer a safe, reproducible, and non-lethal means to assess for pulmonary embolus in the non-human primate.
METHODS: Eleven rhesus primates were studied using standard pulmonary angiography techniques. Five animals studied had previously received humanized anti-CD154 antibodies (associated with thromboembolism risk) in the context of skin transplantation 2 years
