BACKGROUND: Patients with lipodermatosclerosis (LDS) due to chronic venous disease (CVD) of the lower limb show proliferation and convolution of their skin capillaries. There has been no previous attempt to quantify the severity of venous disease according to the extent of morphological change.

Enantiomeric separation and detection of D,L-aspartic acid (Asp) derivatized with 4-fluoro-7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole (NBD-F) by capillary electrophoresis (CE) using modified cyclodextrins as chiral selectors was studied. In this paper, use of tri-n-butylammonium dodecylsulfonate as liquid phase to prepare a capillary column suitable to separate carboxylic acids in a direct injection mode, by the method of dynamic coating with mercury plug, is reported. The results showed that the column has good gas chromatographic properties and high selectivity, especially to strong polar compounds, such as carboxylic acids. The preparation of the capillary column, separation and quantitative analysis of carboxylic acids were investigated. Several examples are given.

New glycosaminoglycans, fucose-containing glycosaminoglycan (FGAG) and depolymerized holothurian glycosaminoglycan (DHG), were investigated as chiral additives for the separation of drug enantiomers by capillary electrophoresis.
