BACKGROUND: Disordered gamblers have phenotypical and pathological similarities to those with substance use disorders (SUD), including exaggerated automatic cognitive processing of motivationally salient gambling cues in the environment (i.e., attentional and approach bias). Cognitive bias modification (CBM) is a family of computerised interventions that have proved effective in successfully re-training these automatic cognitive biases in SUD. CBM interventions can, in principle, be administered online, thus showing potential of being a low-cost, low-threshold addition to conventional treatmen

OBJECTIVES: Performance on working memory tasks is positively associated with speech-in-noise perception performance, particularly where auditory inputs are degraded. It is suggested that interventions designed to improve working memory capacity may improve domain-general working memory performance for people with hearing loss, to benefit their real-world listening. We examined whether a 5-week training program that primarily targets the storage component of working memory (Cogmed RM, adaptive) could improve cognition, speech-in-noise perception and self-reported hearing in a randomized contro

OBJECTIVE: Laparoscopy requires bimanual proficiency, yet early trainees demonstrate underdeveloped nondominant hand (NDH) performance. Although deliberate practice of NDH skill contributes to overall performance, NDH training is rarely incorporated into residency simulation curricula and has not been formally evaluated in surgical trainees. We assessed feasibility and impact of integrating structured NDH training with established laparoscopic curriculum for surgery interns.
DESIGN: Prospective, single-institution randomized pilot study. Interns were assigned the standard 4-week curriculum of

To examine the impact of stepwise speech rehabilitation exercise therapy in the treatment of patients with Parkinson speech problems under psychological intervention on clinical results and cognitive functioning. Parkinson speech disorder patients who met the inclusion criteria were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group for training respectively. The control group used conventional nursing methods, including training in orofacial movement, vocalization, pitch, volume and breath control. The observation group used stepwise speech rehabilitation exercise intervention

OBJECTIVE: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) induces oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, programmed cell death, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired neurotrophic signaling, and neurogenesis, contributing to hippocampal dysfunction. Exercise training is a promising non-pharmacological intervention with potential neuroprotective effects. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of exercise training on the neurobiological mechanisms and cognitive function post-TBI.
METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science were searched up to July 2025, following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Of 185

The aim of this systematic review was to examine the effects of physical exercise training on cerebral blood flow (CBF), which is a physiological marker of cerebrovascular function. Relationships between training-induced effects on CBF with changes in cognitive performance were also discussed. A systematic search was performed up to July 2022. Forty-five intervention studies with experimental, quasi-experimental, or pre-post designs were included. Sixteen studies (median duration: 14 weeks) investigated effects of physical exercise training on CBF markers using magnetic resonance imaging, 20 s

INTRODUCTION: Previous studies indicate that computerised trainings implementing cognitive bias modification (CBM) for interpretation bias might be promising treatments for trauma-related cognitive distortions and symptoms. However, results are mixed, which might be related to the implemented task (sentence completion task), setting, or training duration. Within the present study, we aim to evaluate the efficacy and safety of an app-based intervention for interpretation bias using standardised imagery audio scripts, which is designed as a standalone treatment.
METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The study

BACKGROUND: Current literature views safe gait as a complex task, relying on motor and cognitive resources. The use of virtual reality (VR) in gait training offers a multifactorial approach, showing positive effects on mobility, balance, and fall risk in elderly people and individuals with neurological disorders. This form of training has been described as a viable research tool; however, it has not been applied routinely in clinical practice. Recently, VR was used to develop an adjunct training method for use by physical therapists in an ambulatory clinical setting.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Higher specialty internal medicine (IM) training has been expanded to meet growing demand for generalist physicians, yet educational environments remain inconsistent and trainees report dissatisfaction. Little qualitative work has explored why IM training struggles to develop generalist capability as intended. This study examines how IM residents and trainers understand the purpose of IM training, how they experience it, and what conditions shape development.
STUDY DESIGN: We conducted a qualitative study informed by an interpretivist paradigm. Semi-structured interviews

Goal-Oriented Attentional Self-Regulation (GOALS) is a cognitive rehabilitation training program that combines mindfulness-based attention regulation with individualized goal management strategies to improve functioning in daily life after traumatic brain injury (TBI). While not a specific target of GOALS training, previous research has indicated improvements in emotional functioning following GOALS training, specifically symptoms related to depression and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The current study is based on the hypothesis that improvements in cognitive control processes related

The present paper examines the role of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of social anxiety disorder (SAD). A cognitive-behavioral model of SAD is first presented. Different modalities of CBT for SAD are then described, including exposure, cognitive restructuring, relaxation training, and social skills training, and evidence supporting their efficacy is reviewed. The comparative and combined impact of CBT and pharmacotherapeutic interventions is also explored. CBT appears to be an efficacious treatment for SAD. However, the overall efficacy CBT may be increased by closer exami

Exposure is highly effective for treating acrophobia and there is growing consensus that cognitive mechanisms play an important role in exposure-based therapies. The present randomized controlled trial investigated whether adding a Cognitive Bias Modification - Interpretation (CBM-I) training to a single-session exposure therapy further facilitates cognitive change. The sample included diagnosed acrophobia patients (N = 81), all of whom received exposure therapy. One day later they were randomized to receive either CBM-I or a sham training. The CBM-I trained patients to interpret and appraise

Objective. Objective evaluation of operational training remains challenging, particularly when comparing physical training with virtual reality (VR) training. Behavioral and subjective measures capture performance and perceived workload but provide limited insight into the underlying neurocognitive adaptation. This study proposes and validates a synthetic EEG-derived cognitive training index (CTI) that integrates multiple training-sensitive neurometrics into a single composite metric, with two aims: to validate CTI as an objective marker of training progression in a physical training group, and…

BACKGROUND: Because critical illness, sedation, and ICU treatment commonly disrupt attention, memory, and executive function, early cognitive rehabilitation during the ICU stay may preserve or restore these capacities, reduce the delirium burden, and support engagement and recovery. Our primary aim was to identify and describe cognitive rehabilitation interventions delivered during the ICU stay and describe the healthcare professionals providing them. Secondarily, we summarized patient-important outcomes associated with these interventions and appraised study quality to inform future research.

Learning disabilities (LDs) and working memory problems (WM) are common brain-related comorbidities in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Despite growing evidence on the efficacy of computerized WM training in children with LDs, research in DMD is lacking. This exploratory study assessed whether training (1) improves dystrophin-associated WM problems in DMD, (2) effects are present at post-intervention, 3 and 8 months follow-up, and (3) improves problems that arise from their LDs. A single case non-concurrent multiple baseline across patients design evaluated the target behaviour i.e. parental
