INTRODUCTION: Meningococcal septicemia is not merely an acute disease with a high lethality, but patients surviving the fulminant phase can suffer from serious long-term sequelae.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The records of 165 patients admitted to the hospital from 1968 to 2008 with the diagnosis of meningococcal septicemia were retrospectively reviewed for early signs at presentation, intensive care management, acute symptoms, the necessity of plastic and orthopaedic surgical management, and long-term orthopaedic sequelae. Possible predictors of these conditions were determined.

Lateral contracture of the neck is a rare and insufficiently researched burn consequent. Contracture restricts head motion, can cause a secondary face deformity, presents severe cosmetic defects, and, therefore, requires surgical reconstruction. We have used a dorsal V-flap, or chevron flap, to expose the proximal interphalangeal joint. A retrospective clinical study of its use in 16 patients over 5 years is presented, including indications, functional return of movement, and complications. Long-term follow-up showed an average range of active movement of 70 degrees (range, 13-84 degrees). It has been very difficult to accomplish simultaneous reconstruction of a massive defect of the long bone associated with a large skin defect. Yoshimura et al reported a new procedure using a vascularized free fibular transplant with a monitoring flap. This procedure was used in four cases that had resulted in massive bone and skin defects after wide resection of benign and malignant bone tumors occurring in the long bones. Our results using the composite vascularized fibular graft were gratifying.

Y-V or Z-plasties are a useful one-stage technique for skin closure after aponeurotomy. However, we know no details about postoperative improvement, particularly at each joint. A 42-year-old female with a personal history of Grade II infiltrating ductal breast carcinoma, treated under surgical procedure in 2018, whose hormonal profile included estrogen, progesteronic and HER-2 positive receptors, and a Ki67 proliferative index (20-25%), was referred to our dermatological outpatient clinic complaining worsening of her chronic spontaneous urticaria. The patient was under treatment with etuximide, exemestane, anastrozole, and trastuzumab. Our patient reported intermittent episodes of hives of 8 years of evolution with good control with second-generation antihistamines.

Six women with Bowen's disease of the anogenital area were treated by total excision of the anal mucosa, perianal skin and, in some cases, partial vulvectomy. Two patients had foci of microinvasive squamous carcinoma. Adequate tumor margins were determined by frozen sections.
