A case is reported of acute acalculous cholecystitis in a patient who suffered a digestive burn treated by total parenteral nutrition. Pain in the right upper abdominal quadrant and fever occurred 26 days after the start of parenteral nutrition and 24 h after abruptly resuming oral feeding. Ultrasonography showed a distended gall-bladder with a thickened wall and the formation of sludge. Cholecystectomy was followed by a complete recovery. Neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis, also known as the Batten-Vogt syndrome, is clinically manifested by seizures, loss of intellect, and deterioration of vision. The retinal histopathologic and ultrastructural changes have been well-described. This report adds the findings of trypsin digest preparation of the retinae in three such patients with varying duration of this disease. Acellular retinal capillaries, or ghost vessels, were observed, and the degree of this change correlated with the duration of clinical symptoms. These changes, as well as the histopathologic abnormalities, are discussed.

Twenty-seven non emaciated patients undergoing major visceral surgery were randomly divided into two different groups according to the postoperative parenteral diet (100% glucose versus 50% fat 50% glucose). We report two cases of preduodenal portal vein (PDPV) has with two different clinical pictures. The first case has an intestinal obstruction in infancy caused by PDPV. In the second child, the PDPV was only an operative finding in the newborn. We report for the first time PDPV associated with Hirschsprung disease.
