The antibiotic susceptibility of Chlamydia trachomatis isolates was determined in a tissue culture system. Representatives of all currently recognized serotypes of trachoma-inclusion conjunctivitis agents were tested. Tetracycline and erythromycin yielded similar results, with 1.0 mug/ml preventing chlamydial replication. Isolates of 390 Staphylococcus aureus were tested against 13 different antibiotics by a disc diffusion method as recommended by the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS). Six were subsequently treated with erythromycin and five who received this drug for at least 48 hours were markedly improved within this time period.
