Influence of climate change on livestock diseases occurrence in Burkina faso, West Africa.

Climate change poses a significant threat to livestock production and animal health globally, with particular implications for Burkina Faso. This study explores the links between climate patterns and the resurgence of five major livestock diseases in Burkina Faso, using climatic records from 1961 to 2020 and veterinary clinical data from 2003 to 2019 collected across the Sahel, Sudan-sahel and Sudan climatic zones. The annual and seasonal climate trends were compared over two climatological periods (1961-1990 and 1991-2020) using two independent t-test. It is was found significant changes in r

Management of Glomus Tumors: Experience From a Tertiary Care Centre in India.

BACKGROUND: Glomus tumors are uncommon soft tissue tumors that typically develop in the distal extremities, especially the finger's subungual area. Pain, soreness, and temperature intolerance, particularly cold sensitivity, make up its traditional clinical triad. There is a relative rarity in the literature on this topic, and we have analyzed and thereby discussed our experience in these cases. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed at a tertiary care centre in Jammu, India. All patients diagnosed with glomus tumor from October 2022 to August 2024 were included in the st

Transovarial transmission of mosquito-borne viruses: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: A number of mosquito-borne viruses (MBVs), such as dengue virus (DENV), zika virus (ZIKV), chikungunya (CHIKV), West Nile virus (WNV), and yellow fever virus (YFV) exert adverse health impacts on the global population. Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are the prime vectors responsible for the transmission of these viruses. The viruses have acquired a number of routes for successful transmission, including horizontal and vertical transmission. Transovarial transmission is a subset/type of vertical transmission adopted by mosquitoes for the transmission of viruses from females to t

Effect of adipose derived stromal vascular fraction on leprosy neuropathy: A Preliminary report.

BACKGROUND: Adipose derived stromal vascular fraction (SVF) contains a heterogeneous population of mononuclear cells, progenitor cells and about 1-10% are mesenchymal stromal cells. These cells are an ideal candidate for regenerative medicine for peripheral neuropathy. Leprosy is a disabling disorder with neuropathy, usually with consequences of permanent disability of the extremities. We conducted a preliminary study to evaluate the cell yield, its characteristics and clinical outcomes after SVF injections in four leprosy patients. METHODS: Four post leprosy patients were recruited and evalu

Comparison of the free thinned anterolateral thigh perforator flap with the free medial sural artery perforator flap for reconstruction of head and neck, and extremity defects.

BACKGROUNDThe free anterolateral thigh (ALTP) and free medial sural artery perforator (MSAP) flaps are time tested donor for head and neck, and extremities defect reconstruction. Proponents of either flap have concluded each as workhorse flap in their large cohort studies. However, we could not find any literature comparing the donor morbidities, or recipient site outcomes of these flaps, objectively.METHODSRetrospective data, such as demographic details, flap characteristics and post operative course, from patients who underwent free thinned ALTP (25 patients) and MSAP flap (20 patients) were

Evaluating the Efficacy of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in Digital Frostbite.

Frostbite is a limb threatening, cold-induced tissue injury most commonly affecting the extremities. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a proposed adjunctive treatment for this condition, which acts by increasing cellular oxygen availability in damaged tissues. Currently, there is a lack of data regarding the effectiveness of HBOT. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to further the research as one of the largest retrospective comparative cohort studies to date. We evaluated the efficacy of HBOT in the treatment of digital frostbite compared to a non-HBOT-treated group, with a focus on amp

Spatial-temporal characteristics of mercury and methylmercury in marine sediment under the combined influences of river input and coastal currents.

Mercury, especially in the form of methylmercury (MeHg), is a global pollutant, and aquatic products are considered the main sources of Hg exposure to humans. The Bohai and Yellow seas are two important epicontinental seas for marine fisheries and aquaculture in China. A decreasing trend of the THg in the Yellow River Estuary toward the outer edge was reported according to 83 surface sediments (27.3 ± 15.0 ng g-1) and 3 sediment cores from the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea. The relatively higher THg levels in the central Yellow Sea can be primarily attributed to higher organic carbon levels and fin

Disseminated intravascular coagulation presenting as symmetrical peripheral gangrene: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Plasmodium vivax was traditionally thought to be benign; however, nowadays it presents with a myriad of systemic complications like cerebral malaria, acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute kidney injury, acute pancreatitis, hepatic dysfunction, and disseminated intravascular coagulation, which were earlier attributed only to Plasmodium falciparum malaria. Here we report a case of a middle-aged man who presented with disseminated intravascular coagulation manifesting as symmetrical peripheral gangrene. What makes this case more interesting is that the malaria isolated was Plas

Corneal alterations in Crisponi/CISS1 syndrome: A slit-lamp biomicroscopy and in vivo confocal microscopy corneal report.

BACKGROUND: Mutations in the cytokine receptor-like factor 1 (CRLF1) gene are responsible for Crisponi/Cold-induced Sweat Syndrome, an extremely rare autosomal-recessive multisystem disorder. The protein encoded is a soluble cytokine receptor, involved in the ciliary neurotrophic factor receptor (CNTFR) pathway. The ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) promotes corneal wound healing and patients with Crisponi/CISS1 syndrome suffer from recurrent keratitis. The aim of the study was to report and discuss the corneal alterations in Crisponi/CISS1 rare disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We evaluated t
