BACKGROUND: We previously developed substitutes for red blood cells (RBCs) and platelets (PLTs) for transfusion. These substitutes included hemoglobin vesicles (HbVs) and fibrinogen γ-chain (dodecapeptide HHLGGAKQAGDV, H12)-coated, adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-encapsulated liposomes [H12-(ADP)-liposomes].
