Impact of Multiple Hydrogen Bonds with Fluoride on Catalysis: Insight from NMR Spectroscopy.

Hydrogen-bonding interactions have been explored in catalysis, enabling complex chemical reactions. Recently, enantioselective nucleophilic fluorination with metal alkali fluoride has been accomplished with BINAM-derived bisurea catalysts, presenting up to four NH hydrogen-bond donors (HBDs) for fluoride. These catalysts bring insoluble CsF and KF into solution, control fluoride nucleophilicity, and provide a chiral microenvironment for enantioselective fluoride delivery to the electrophile. These attributes encouraged a 1H/19F NMR study to gain information on hydrogen-bonding networks with fl

Access to Heteroleptic Fluorido-Cyanido Complexes with a Large Magnetic Anisotropy by Fluoride Abstraction.

Silicon-mediated fluoride abstraction is demonstrated as a means of generating the first fluorido-cyanido transition metal complexes. This new synthetic approach is exemplified by the synthesis and characterization of the heteroleptic complexes, trans-[MIV F4 (CN)2 ]2- (M=Re, Os), obtained from their homoleptic [MIV F6 ]2- parents. As shown by combined high-field electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy and magnetization measurements, the partial substitution of fluoride by cyanide ligands leads to a marked increase in the magnetic anisotropy of trans-[ReF4 (CN)2 ]2- as compared to [ReF6 ]

Involvement of Bmal1 and circadian clock signaling in chondrogenic differentiation of ATDC5 cells by fluoride.

Skeletal fluorosis causes growth plate impairment and growth retardation during bone development. However, the mechanism of how fluoride impairs chondrocyte is unclear. To explore the effect of fluoride on chondrocyte differentiation and the regulation of circadian clock signaling pathway during chondrogenesis, we treated ATDC5 cells with fluoride and carried out a series of experiments. 10-3 M fluoride inhibited cell viability and significantly decreased the expression of Sox9 and Col2a1 (P < 0.05). Fluoride inhibited proteoglycan synthesis and decreased significantly the expression of Aggrec

The use of fluoride for the prevention of dental erosion and erosive tooth wear in children and adolescents.

BACKGROUND: Erosive tooth wear (ETW) has gained increasing clinical relevance. It is estimated that worldwide 30-50% of deciduous and 20-45% of permanent teeth are affected. One of the most important nutritional factors causing ETW is the overconsumption of soft drinks, but also patient-related factors like reflux or eating disorders can lead to erosive lesions. Whether acids lead to erosive demineralisation depends on their degree of saturation with respect to tooth mineral at their actual pH. REVIEW: Fluoride compounds like sodium or amine fluoride seem to be of limited efficacy against ero

Incidental detection of Os acromiale mimicking a fracture on 18F-Fluoride PET-CT.

Os acromiale represents an unfused accessory centre of ossification of the acromion of scapula. It may cause shoulder impingement, rotator cuff tear or degenerative acromio-clavicular joint disease. A 38-year-old male with history of degenerative disc disease presented with persistent backache. MRI of the lumbar spine had earlier showed left paracentral disc protrusion of L5/S1 vertebrae impinging the left S1 nerve root for which the patient underwent fluoroscopic guided nerve root block. Due to persistent bilateral sciatica and worsening leg pain a decompression surgery was planned. A bone sc

Evaluation of vascular and kidney injury biomarkers in Mexican children exposed to inorganic fluoride.

Exposure to inorganic fluoride (F) has been implicated in cardiovascular and kidney dysfunction mainly in adult populations. However, limited epidemiological information from susceptible populations, such as children, is available. In this study we evaluated the relationship of F exposure with some vascular and kidney injury biomarkers in children. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 374 Mexican schoolchildren. Dental fluorosis and F concentrations in the water and urine were evaluated. The glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the urinary concentrations of kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1

TGF-β1 acts as mediator in fluoride-induced autophagy in the mouse osteoblast cells.

It is well known that excess fluoride intake can result in fluorosis, which is a serious public health problem. TGF-β1 affects a wide variety of cellular activities and plays an important role in fluorosis. Recent literature proved that fluoride induces autophagy, however, the mechanism is still unclear, and the role of TGF-β1 in the fluoride-induced autophagy should be further illustrated. Therefore, in this study, plasmids and small interfering RNA (siRNA) were used to overexpress and silence the TGF-β1 expression in the osteoblasts cells. Our results demonstrated that sodium fluoride (NaF)

Aberrant methylation-induced dysfunction of p16 is associated with osteoblast activation caused by fluoride.

Chronic exposure to fluoride continues to be a public health problem worldwide, affecting thousands of people. Fluoride can cause abnormal proliferation and activation of osteoblast and osteoclast, leading to skeletal fluorosis that can cause pain and harm to joints and bones and even lead to permanent disability. Nevertheless, there is no recognized mechanism to explain the bone lesions of fluorosis. In this work, we performed a population study and in vitro experiments to investigate the pathogenic mechanism of skeletal fluorosis in relation to methylation of the promoter of p16. The protein

Hierarchical Mesoporous Iron Fluoride with Superior Rate Performance for Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Monodispersed mesoporous iron fluorides were synthesized by a low-cost reversed micelle method. The as-prepared materials with hierarchical mesoporous structure exhibit excellent rate capability (115.6 mAh g-1 at 2000 mA g-1) which is superior to many other carbon-free iron fluorides. In addition, a high reversible capacity of 143.2 mAh g-1 can be retained after 100 cycles at 1000 mA g-1. The outstanding electrochemical features can be attributed to the particular hierarchical mesoporous structure, facilitating electrolyte penetration as well as rapid electronic and ionic transportation.

Interspecific variation in the diets of herbivores in an industrial environment: implications for exposure to fluoride emissions.

Atmospheric fluorides (gaseous and particulate) are deposited on, and absorbed by, vegetation. Ingested fluoride accumulates in calcified tissues of vertebrates, and if it is excessive, it may lead to dental and skeletal fluorosis. The prevalence, form and severity of the effects vary greatly between species. Foraging strategy can be an important determinant of fluoride exposure in herbivores, because foliar fluoride concentrations vary between plant species, for example, according to vertical and lateral position in the vegetation. We combined microhistological analysis of diet and analysis o
