Thirty-five patients with Meniere disease underwent endolymphatic sac decompression and drainage with a Silastic sac-mastoid shunt. On the basis of patients' responses to a questionnaire and on analysis of preoperative and postoperative audiometric studies, we found the method to be an effective means for conservation or improvement of hearing and for relief of vertigo in patients with positive glycerol tests. Recovery of Shigella spp. from fecal specimens transported in buffered glycerol saline and Cary-Blair media held at frozen, refrigerated, or room temperature was compared with recovery by direct plating of fecal specimens. Buffered glycerol saline was the better transport medium for the recovery of Shigella spp. Refrigerated or frozen transport temperatures were superior to room temperature for recovery from either medium.

We propose a composition of a local hemostatic and wound-healing agent in a liquid dosage form, a water-glycerol colloidal suspension containing active substances (silicon and iron glycerolates and chitosan) and an auxiliary substance polyvinylpyrrolidone. The agent is nontoxic and exhibits high hemostatic activity (that was practically the same at different contents of iron (III) monoglycerolate (0.40 and 0.80 wt%)) and pronounced wound-healing properties.
