We examined the pharmacokinetic properties of naloxone in a group of premature infants infused with an intravenous bolus of the drug. Ten infants with a mean birth weight of 1,328 +/- 402 g and a gestational age of 29.4 +/- 2.8 weeks were studied at an age of 4.5 +/- 3.2 days of life. Following administration of 0.4 mg/kg of naloxone, we obtained blood samples at specific time intervals, and stored the serum for later analysis by a radioimmunoassay method. Pharmacokinetic differences between a bolus and a 60 minutes continuous intravenous administration of 100 mg/kg dose of ampicillin in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) were evaluated in the rabbits with experimental staphylococcal meningitis. Carbenicillin (CB-PC) was administered intravenously (5 gm over one-half hour) to 25 patients suffering form benign prostatic hyperplasia. Prostatic biopsies and sera were obtained one, two, three, four, and five hours later for histology and biochemical analyses of the serum and prostatic tissue levels of CB-PC. Cyanide in blood, plasma, and urine of dogs after administration of K14CN was determined with the isotope dilution technique. The addition of large amounts of inactive KCN as soon as possible to a sample to be analyzed inhibited the decrease of the original cyanide concentration. This report is on a 45-year-old male patient without underlying disease who presented with a Burkholderia pseudomallei-caused keratoscleritis in his right eye. Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disorder of unknown origin commonly affecting the lung, the lymphoid system and the skin. We report here two cases of cutaneous sarcoidosis in two former intravenous drug users following interferon (IFN)-α and ribavirin therapy for chronic hepatitis C.
