Phlebological insole: Can it help in the lymphoedema treatment? A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of lymphoedema requires a multi-professional and interdisciplinary approach. Despite being prescribed in the management of lymphatic disorders, the effectiveness of the phlebological insoles is still under investigation. AIM: This scoping review aims to identify and analyse evidence regarding the efficacy of phlebological insoles as a conservative intervention for lower limb lymphoedema. METHOD: The following databases were searched up to November 2022: PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL Complete, PEDro and Scopus. Preventive and conservative interventions were consid

Rates and patterns of short-term symptom deterioration in patients undergoing interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation.

Chronic pain is both prevalent and debilitating. It is often treated with interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation programs (IPRPs). While research has largely focused on the effectiveness of IPRPs in improving patient outcomes, negative treatment effects remain under-explored. This study aims to investigate both the prevalence and types of negative outcomes following IPRPs for chronic pain. Data for the current study were obtained from the Swedish Quality Registry for Pain, with 22771 patients undergoing IPRPs between 2016 and 2023. We calculated the Reliable Change Index to find reliable deteri

Should all patients referred for magnetic resonance imaging scans of their internal auditory meatus be followed up in ENT clinics?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is recognised as the "Gold Standard" investigation for symptoms pertaining to the inner ear and detection of retro-cochlear pathology. There is still no accurate clinical predictor for cerebellopontine angle lesions and increasingly more normal scans are being performed. With constantly increasing demands on ENT outpatient clinics, our aim was to investigate whether all patients referred for MRI of their internal auditory meatus (IAM) require follow-up in ENT clinics. A retrospective study was carried out in a tertiary referral centre referring patients for MRI

The interplay of sleep disorders and orofacial pain: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Chronic orofacial pain (OFP) and sleep disorders are highly prevalent conditions that significantly impact quality of life. Increasing evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship between these disorders, whereby sleep disturbances may exacerbate OFP and vice versa. This systematic review synthesizes current evidence on the influence of sleep disorders on chronic OFP and explores additional factors that may contribute to this interaction. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines and registered the study with PROSPERO (CRD4202525111

A Scoping Review on the Effects of Kinesio Taping on Oropharyngeal Function Related to Swallowing and Feeding.

Following the expansion of interdisciplinary communication among rehabilitative service providers, new techniques have been introduced for treating swallowing disorders. Kinesio taping (KT) is one of the recently noticed techniques in the rehabilitation of swallowing and feeding disorders. Given the novelty of this technique in research and practice, the present scoping review aimed to summarize the available evidence on the effects of KT on the oropharyngeal function related to swallowing, and to identify current knowledge gaps to guide future studies. The initial comprehensive search was con

Exercise Therapy Research in Ankylosing Spondylitis-Induced Back Pain: A Bibliometric Study (2004-2023).

BACKGROUND Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), a chronic inflammatory disease predominantly causing back pain, affects up to 0.5% of the global population, more commonly in males. Frequently undiagnosed in early stages, AS is often associated with comorbid depression and anxiety, imposing significant healthcare burdens. Despite available pharmaceutical treatments, exercise therapy (ET) has emerged as an effective, side-effect-free alternative, particularly for managing AS-induced back pain. This study aims to explore the research trends in ET for treating AS back pain from 2004-2023. MATERIAL AND MET

Spirituality in palliative home care: a framework for the clinician.

PURPOSE: Spiritual care at the end of life remains poorly understood despite its promotion by the World Health Organisation. The purpose of this paper was to develop a consensus-based framework of the main elements of spiritual care in palliative home care. METHODS: Expert meeting using the nominal group technique, followed by a two-stage web-based Delphi process, was used. Experts from three stakeholder groups (physicians, professional spiritual care givers and researchers) representing two countries (Belgium and the Netherlands) participated in this study. RESULTS: Fourteen elements of spi

RDoC Mechanisms Underlying Bodily Symptoms in Psychiatry: A Scoping Review.

Somatic or bodily symptoms are shared among various psychiatric disorders. Across the mood, anxious, dissociative and psychotic spectra, common and perhaps specific mechanisms for these debilitating symptoms need to be clarified. We propose here a scoping review of studies published until May 2025 focusing on primary research in adult populations about bodily symptoms, psychiatric disorders, and neurobiological mechanisms connecting them, based on the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) matrix. Our review follows the PRISMA-ScR Checklist and included 73 articles. Studies focusing solely on psychos

Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment for the Breastfeeding Dyad: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Human milk is widely recognized as the optimal source of infant nutrition. While 83.9% of mothers initiate breastfeeding, only 46.3% exclusively breastfeed to 3 months. Common barriers include latch and suck difficulties, painful feeding, and breast infections or engorgement. Osteopathic manipulation, including osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) and therapy (OMTh), has been proposed as supportive intervention for breastfeeding challenges. RESEARCH AIM: This scoping review examines the current literature on OMT/OMTh in the breastfeeding dyad and identifies gaps to inform futu

Integrating Air Quality and Public Health Benefits in U.S. Decarbonization Strategies.

Research on air quality and human health "co-benefits" from climate mitigation strategies represents a growing area of policy-relevant scholarship. Compared to other aspects of climate and energy policy evaluation, however, there are still relatively few of these co-benefits analyses. This sparsity reflects a historical disconnect between research quantifying energy and climate, and research dealing with air quality and health. The air quality co-benefits of climate, clean energy, and transportation electrification policies are typically assessed with models spanning social, physical, chemical

Selective visual attention to drive cognitive brain-machine interfaces: from concepts to neurofeedback and rehabilitation applications.

Brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) using motor cortical activity to drive an external effector like a screen cursor or a robotic arm have seen enormous success and proven their great rehabilitation potential. An emerging parallel effort is now directed to BMIs controlled by endogenous cognitive activity, also called cognitive BMIs. While more challenging, this approach opens new dimensions to the rehabilitation of cognitive disorders. In the present work, we focus on BMIs driven by visuospatial attention signals and we provide a critical review of these studies in the light of the accumulated kno
