Hypersensitivity to proton pump inhibitors (PPI) is rare but potentially severe. An increase in hypersensitivity reactions to PPI is expected as these drugs are widely prescribed and some have become available over-the-counter. Allergy to PPI has to be considered in patients presenting anaphylaxis, late-type skin rashes, interstitial nephritis and other organ involvement suspicious to be drug-induced. Cross-reactivity between PPI is of concern, as they are closely related in structure. Skin prick- and intradermal testing are reliable tools to confirm immediate-type allergy to one PPI compound

Seven patients had autoimmune progesterone dermatitis. The morphological findings illustrate the polymorphous nature of the disease in which urticaria, erythema multiforme, and dyshidrosiform lesions were seen. Recurrence of the eruption five to ten days prior to the menses with spontaneous resolution following the menses was present in all cases. Despite its widespread use, the antimycotic nystatin rarely causes allergic reactions. We observed a case of acute generalized pustular exanthem with arthralgia and fever, after the oral administration of nystatin. A causal relationship was demonstrated by positive Intracutaneous testing of the drug. Effects of chlorpheniramine and two antiallergic drugs on the active cutaneous anaphylaxis (ACA) reaction induced by intradermal injection of Ascaris suum antigen in naturally sensitized dogs were investigated. Chlorpheniramine (10 mg/kg, intraduodenally (i.d.)) almost abolished the ACA reaction. NCO-650 (100 mg/kg, i.d.) had no inhibitory effect, while tranilast (300 mg/kg, i.d.) showed a weak inhibitory effect. These findings show that the ACA reaction is almost totally mediated by histamine and ACA reaction is considerably resistant to antiallergic drugs such as tranilast and NCO-650.

Sixty three samples of dairy creamery effluent were examined for the presence of mycobacteria. Thirty two strains were isolated from 27 samples. These were classified as follows: M. fortuitum (13), M. peregrinum (6), M. gordonae(5), M. marianum (scrofulaceum) (4), unidentified (4). Ten strains, representative of the groups isolated, were tested for their effect on experimental animals. None were pathogenic for guinea pigs or mice but a number produced a minimal amount of skin sensitization in guinea pigs to avian and mammalian tuberculin.

We have shown previously that the alkylating agent streptozotocin (STZ) fails to induce responses in the murine local lymph node assay, a predictive test for contact sensitizing potential. In the present study, we demonstrate that this same compound when injected intradermally into the ears of mice provokes a dose-dependent induction of draining lymph node cell proliferation.
