We report a case of persistent traumatic cyclodialysis treated by goniophotocoagulation and observed by ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) throughout the course. A 16 year-old male was struck in his right eye by a rocket firework. After the injury, hypotony continued for 4 months and he was referred to Hiroshima University Hospital. At that time, the best visual acuity in his right eye was 0.2 and the intraocular pressure was 6 mmHg. Interstitial laser-induced thermotherapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive technique for local tumor destruction within solid organs using optical fibers to deliver a high-energy laser to the target lesion. As the popularity of thermal capsular shrinkage continues to increase, analysis of complications and failures will continue to provide helpful information in guiding patient selection and decreasing morbidity. PURPOSE: To assess the outcome of contact transscleral diode laser (TSDL) in the treatment of threshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP).
METHOD: TSDL was performed in 14 eyes of 8 babies who presented to the paediatric ophthalmic service at King's College Hospital between 1996 and 1997 with threshold ROP (median post-conceptual age 26 + 1 weeks, median birthweight 835 g) by a single surgeon. PURPOSE: Endoscopes for use in ophthalmology can be manufactured in dimensions smaller than 0.89 mm.
MATERIALS: Gradient-index lenses that give a higher resolution than fiber bundles can be miniaturized down to 0.35 mm.
RESULTS: We used this new endoscope in 6 eyes of 6 patients during anterior segment surgery. Preliminary clinical experience has demonstrated the usefulness and practical application of this new instrument.
CONCLUSION: The clear views the instrument provides of the ciliary sulcus and ciliary body behind the iris make it useful in secondary posterior chamber intraocular lens

OBJECTIVE: Hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) is an inherited abnormality passed down as a dominant autosomal feature. Recurrent epistaxis usually constitutes the major clinical manifestation of this disease. The unsatisfactory results of conservative therapy have stimulated a research interest for the role of laser photocoagulation in telangiectatic vessels associated with this clinical entity.

The authors report a nontraditional effective method of treating patients with contusion semiluxation of the lens. It consists in fixation of the lens at the expense of formation of posterior synechiae because of an inflammatory process induced by laser exposure of pigmented epithelium of the iris and ciliary body. Complex clinical evaluation of the organ of vision in 132 patients, including the remote period (after 3-10 years), showed good stabilization of visual functions and of the geometrical position of the incompletely dislocated lens after its laser fixation.

We report our experience with the use of Argon laser photocoagulation for the treatment of recurrent pterygia. In this study, 36 patients and 42 eyes with recurrent pterygia having undergone previous surgery one or more times, were subjected to laser therapy. The patients were followed up for a period of 9-12 months. The success rate was 92.8% when laser therapy was employed in recurrent pterygia which were excised once, while it was 64.2% in cases where excisions were done two or more times. Argon laser treatment is a safe and effective method of therapy for recurrent pterygia.
