Factors affecting the relapse of maxilla and soft tissues of nose, upper lip and velopharyngeal structures after maxillary advancement in cleft patients.

The objectives of this study were to find the factors affecting the relapses after maxillary advancement in cleft patients. This retrospective study included 25 cleft patients. The serial lateral cephalograms were used for the evaluation of the maxilla and the soft tissue relapses in 1-year post-operative period. The skeletal relapse rate correlated with the amount of skeletal movement only in horizontal direction (r = 0.483, p = 0.015). The patients with significant skeletal relapse did not have different amount of soft tissue relapses when compared to the patients without significant skeleta…

Guided implant surgery and sinus lift in severely resorbed maxillae: A retrospective clinical study with up to 10 years of follow-up.

OBJECTIVES: In the posterior maxilla, due to the presence of maxillary sinus, residual bone height lower than 3mm is a critical factor that can affect implant stability and survival. The use of guided surgery may facilitate the surgical procedures and the implant insertion in case of severely resorbed maxillae. Moreover, it may have beneficial effects on the long-term survival and success of implant-supported restorations. This study aimed to evaluate implant supported restorations on severely resorbed maxilla (<3 mm) after sinus lift with collagenated xenograft and guided surgery. METHODS: F…

A randomized controlled trial: evaluation of efficiency and safety of a novel surgical guide in the extraction of deeply impacted supernumerary teeth in the anterior maxilla.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative X-ray and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) are helpful for locating supernumerary teeth, but the images cannot be transferred to the operation. To design a novel surgical guide plate for intraoperative navigation, we transfer the patient's oral CBCT and gypsum model scan data to a computer for analysis. In our study, we evaluate the efficiency and safety of a novel surgical guide plate for the extraction of deeply impacted supernumerary teeth (DIMSNT) in the anterior maxilla. METHODS: Forty patients treated at the Department of School & Hospital of Stomatology, We…

Evaluation of the use of iliac cancellous bone and anorganic bovine bone in the reconstruction of the atrophic maxilla with titanium mesh: a clinical and histologic investigation.

The present article describes a titanium mesh procedure used for bone augmentation in the treatment of severe maxillary atrophy. A mix of iliac cancellous bone and anorganic bovine bone in a 1:1 ratio is proposed for achieving the best bone quality at the time of implant placement, which is performed 5 to 6 months after the augmentation surgery. This procedure provides for 3-stage surgery using a titanium mesh (which is removed 4 to 5 months later) to retain the cancellous bone/Bio-Oss mixture. Bone specimens taken 5 to 6 months after the augmentation procedure showed bone regeneration and the…
