Learning Cultural Humility Through Stories and Global Service-Learning.

Service-learning experiences are utilized by nursing programs to increase cultural learning for students. Through storytelling, the concept of cultural humility can be explained to students preparing for upcoming intercultural experiences. This case study describes the experience of nursing students and educators on their first service-learning trip to Kenya, and how intercultural issues were navigated as students developed cultural humility. The story now is shared in preparation for subsequent international student nursing trips. The utilization of storytelling can be a model for others prep

Nursing student training as a novel approach to increasing community-based access to contraception in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: evaluation of outcomes.

This study evaluated the scale-up of an innovative approach to increasing modern contraceptive use in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) on multiple outcomes: fidelity to design, acceptability, sustainability, satisfaction, adoption by other organizations, and penetration. The intervention consisted of incorporating a family planning (FP) module into the training of third-year nursing students, who then counseled and delivered services during community outreach events as their practicum several times annually in selected provinces. In late 2023, eight different stakeholder groups were

How the 'warped' relationships between nurses' emotions, attitudes, social support and perceived organizational conditions impact customer orientation.

AIMS: Much research focuses on organizational culture and its impact on customer orientation or emotional states and their impact on job satisfaction and well-being. This study aims to combine the complex roles of nurses' emotion states and job satisfaction in a model that identifies the effects of standards for service delivery (organizational culture), supervisor and co-worker support and the development of customer orientation. BACKGROUND: A previous study examined the relationships between nurses' personal resources, job satisfaction and customer orientation. This study examines how these

Sustainable improvement of interprofessional care for better resident outcomes: protocol for the INTERSCALE hybrid type III effectiveness cluster-randomized trial comparing individualized and collaborative delivery of an evidence-based care model for long-term care.

BACKGROUND: Over recent decades, multifaceted nurse-led care models have been developed to reduce unplanned hospital transfers from long-term care facilities (LTCFs). In Switzerland, the INTERCARE model has demonstrated effectiveness, with core components including deployment of nurses in expanded roles (INTERCARE nurses), evidence-based communication tools, and advance care planning. However, resource-intensive implementation strategies such as 1:1 support meetings for model implementers pose challenges for scale-up, underscoring the need for more scalable implementation support. The INTERSCA

Is donepezil therapy associated with reduced mortality in nursing home residents with dementia?

BACKGROUND: Since cholinesterase inhibitors (CEIs) were approved for use in mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease, the therapeutic efficacy of this class of medications has largely centered on demonstration of short-term improvement in cognition and global function. Later evidence suggested that the beneficial effects of CEIs might be sustainable for at least 3 years and that CEIs may have a disease-modifying effect on Alzheimer's disease. These broad-ranging, long-term effects may explain the recent finding that the use of a CEI among nursing home residents with dementia was associated with lo
