OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors associated with the increase of the injury severity of powered two wheelers (PTW) riders when involved in a road accident in Portugal.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 37769 PTW accidents that occurred in Portugal between 2010 and 2015 was performed. Research on the safety of vulnerable road users in Montenegro and in the European Union found that pedestrian fatality rates are the highest, followed by motorcyclists, and then cyclists. Tracheoesophageal fistula following blunt chest trauma is rare. Typically the patient is a young male with an elastic chest wall who is involved in a motor vehicle accident. Isolated laryngotracheal separation following blunt trauma to the neck is a very rare subset of laryngeal trauma and has not been previously well characterized. A 'clothes-line' type injury is one way in which such an injury may occur in which a cyclist rides into a rope or cable. A case of this kind is presented, followed by a discussion of the relevant clinical symptoms and signs as well as the difficulties in making a diagnosis. The critical role of fibre-optic subglottoscopy and tracheoscopy in reaching this diagnosis is also examined.

A 72-year-old male presented with a post-traumatic false aneurysm of the right proximal M2 artery with massive subarachnoid hemorrhage after closed head injury. Serial computed tomography (CT) and angiography showed the development of the aneurysm which was verified at autopsy. He was admitted in a drowsy state just after a motorcycle accident.
