Identifying the pathways to increased death literacy: Building a conceptual causal model through a mixed-methods pragmatic ESC-DAGs approach.

BACKGROUND: Death literacy is viewed as a resource that enables individuals and communities to navigate the end of life. The Lancet Commission on the Value of Death has recommended its society-wide development. However, to be able to increase death literacy, insight is first needed into the factors that contribute to it. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to develop an evidence-informed conceptual model of the causal relationships between death literacy, its theorized determinants, and other contributing factors. DESIGN: We applied a mixed-methods design, consisting of a scoping review and expert p

Self, Others and Context: Reframing Clinical Reasoning as a Socio-Cognitive Practice.

RATIONALE, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: Clinical reasoning is often studied as if it occurred inside the clinician's head. Yet, in practice, clinicians think, decide and act through constant interaction with patients, colleagues, technologies, routines and local constraints. This article challenges predominantly individual and decontextualised accounts of clinical reasoning and reframes reasoning as a situated socio-cognitive practice. We aim to show how explicit and tacit knowledge interact with the social, material and organizational environments in which clinical practice unfolds. METHODS: We deve

Beyond antigen matching: compatibility intelligence theory for transfusion as an emergent biological system.

BACKGROUND: Despite major advances in serologic testing, extended phenotyping, and blood group genomics, clinically similar transfusion exposures may result in markedly different immune and clinical outcomes. Existing compatibility strategies do not fully explain this biological variability. OBJECTIVES: To examine transfusion compatibility as an emergent donor-recipient biological state and propose a systems-level conceptual framework that integrates established biological determinants into a testable model for future precision transfusion medicine. METHODS: This narrative review critically

Reconceptualizing Clinical Priority as Relational Influence: Derivation of Drawing Reasoning From a Sequential Programme of Research.

RATIONALE: Determining which patient problem requires attention first is a continuous cognitive task with direct consequences for patient safety. Despite its centrality, clinical prioritization remains conceptually underdeveloped. Organizational models frame it as protocol-driven; experiential models assume it improves with clinical exposure. Neither addresses the specific cognitive challenge that prioritization poses when patients present with multiple interacting conditions. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To reconceptualize clinical prioritization as a distinct cognitive task requiring relational int

Youth Advisory Boards in Health Care Settings: Perspectives From Health Care Professionals.

BACKGROUND: There is a mutually beneficial, multidirectional relationship when young people are engaged in policy, programming, and research. Although the positive impact of youth engagement is evident, adultism and organizational readiness remain key barriers to youth participation in health care settings. OBJECTIVES: This study explored how adult health care professionals and hospital leadership at an urban safety-net hospital understand and conceptualize youth advisory boards (YABs) and assess their utility in health care settings. METHODS: Semistructured interviews (N = 10) were conducte

A Study on the Prevalence of Occupational Stress Among Police Personnel in Delhi.

Introduction Occupational stress or stress at work is a real challenge for workers as well as organisations. Work-related stress can be caused by poor work organisation, poor work design, poor management, unsatisfactory working conditions, and lack of support from colleagues and supervisors. Police personnel work in such conditions that make them vulnerable to adverse physiological and psychological outcomes; however, this often goes underreported, underdiagnosed, and undertreated. The current study focused on two types of occupational stress, namely operational stress and organisational stres

The complexities of integrating evidence-based preventative health into England's NHS: lessons learnt from the case of PrEP.

BACKGROUND: The integration of preventative health services into England's National Health Service is one of the cornerstones of current health policy. This integration is primarily envisaged through the removal of legislation that blocks collaborations between NHS organisations, local government, and community groups. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This paper aims to illustrate why these actions are insufficient through the case study of the PrEP judicial review. METHODS: Through an interview study with 15 HIV experts (commissioners, activists, clinicians, and national health body representatives), w
