We report a case of primary mucinous adenocarcinoma of the renal pelvis associated with carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) production. A 48-year-old woman was incidentally found to have an elevated serum CEA level. A series of examinations revealed a fat-containing tumor in the left kidney and excluded tumors in other sites. Radical nephrectomy was performed, and the histopathologic examination revealed a mucinous adenocarcinoma that was strongly positive for CEA. Postoperatively, her serum CEA level gradually returned to the normal range, and she had had no recurrence by 9 months postoperatively.

Blunt abdominal trauma with isolated rupture of the normal renal pelvis is an extremely rare clinical entity. The correct preoperative diagnosis may be difficult and challenging because of the insidious onset, lack of blood loss, and frequently, lack of urinary symptoms. Intraoperative inspection of the collecting system is the most accurate method to fully define an extent of injury. The object of the case report is to present the case of a 15-year-old male with isolated pelvic rupture of a normal kidney because of strong punch in the abdomen during the handball match.

Thirteen reported cases of renal pelvic sarcomatoid carcinoma have been documented since 1961, and all patients presented with metastatic disease or advanced renal parenchyma involvement. We present a case of hypercalcemia associated with a renal pelvis squamous neoplasm. Severe hyperleukocytosis was also present, resembling a leukaemoid reaction. After failure of standard therapy, we performed a trial of low dose epirubicin in this patient, obtaining a short-term clinical remission. Although a palliative non-toxic effect seems to be achievable with this approach, further studies are needed to ascertain the role of chemotherapy in the long-term control of this condition.

A case is reported of inverted papilloma of the renal pelvis in a patient with previous transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder. The renal pelvic lesion was diagnosed and treated with a flexible ureteropyeloscope. Although nephroureterectomy was avoided, the patient must be carefully followed endoscopically and radiographically for recurrence of lesions throughout the urinary tract. Herein we describe 2 patients in whom a bifid renal pelvis was associated with peristaltic dysfunction and pyelopelvic reflux, causing pyelocaliectasis and flank pain.
