Enhancing Case Formulation Competence in Novice Counselors: A ChatGPT-Assisted Approach Using the 4P Model.

With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, various scientific research fields are exploring the application of potential of new technologies. Counseling psychology, closely intertwined with natural language processing, is one of the most suitable domains for such exploration. This study focuses on investigating the effectiveness of large language models (LLMs) in assisting novice counselors with case-formulation processes. Based on supervisors' ratings of novice counselors' performance before and after using LLMs, the results indicate that AI assistance significantl

Development of the CLEAR Program to Bridge the Theory-Practice Gap for New Graduate Nurses.

BACKGROUND: New graduate nurses often face challenges in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. This study developed and evaluated the Case-based Learning, Experiential Analysis & Application, and Reflection (CLEAR) program, a structured experiential learning model based on Kolb's theory, to facilitate their early adaptation. METHOD: A single-group pretest-posttest design was employed with 30 new graduate nurses. The 8-week program, developed using the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model, integrated case-based learning, ex

Quality assurance and continuing medical education in dermatopathology - the ASDP way.

Professional motivation led the American Society of Dermatopathology to approve the establishment of a program for quality assurance, the first of its kind in dermatopathology. Recent announcements from the American Board of Medical Specialties indicating that its member boards have a responsibility to set standards for, and to assess, the continuing competence of their diplomates have resulted in specialty board recertification programs evolving into programs of maintenance of certification. With this in mind, we initiate a CME section, administered online, in this issue of the journal based

Developing Professionalism in Dentistry: A Systematic Review.

This article was migrated. The article was marked as recommended. Background: Professionalism is a core competency and concern in all health professional education. Evidence from nursing and medicine suggests the evidence base for approaches to developing and assessing professionalism at undergraduate level is weak. In 2015, notifications, imposed sanctions, and in some cases de-registration against dental practitioners for reported incidences of breaches in infection control in New South Wales, Australia, have refreshed the essential need for dental practitioners to promote public safety and

Capacity building models for managing multiple long-term conditions in low-and-middle-income countries: a systematic review and gap analysis.

BACKGROUND: The global prevalence of multiple long-term conditions (MLTCs) is increasing, challenging healthcare providers worldwide. In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), healthcare professionals face additional obstacles in managing MLTCs due to the presence of disease-specific guidelines. This issue is exacerbated by the limited emphasis on both pre-service and in-service training of healthcare professionals on MLTCs within LMICs. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review to synthesize the scientific evidence on training and educational initiatives on MLTCs for health professionals

Evaluating training and competency assessment in public and community psychiatry: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND: Public and Community Psychiatry training prepares residents to care for underserved populations, including people with severe mental illness (SMI), people with substance use disorder (SUD), sexual and gender minorities, and those experiencing homelessness. While Public and Community Psychiatry training primarily occurs in psychiatry rotations, core competencies, such as addressing stigma and providing care for marginalized communities, are also essential in other medical specialties. Assessment methods vary widely, making competency evaluation challenging. This review aimed to exam

Junior doctors' interpretation of the electrocardiogram: a cross-sectional survey in South African hospitals.

BACKGROUND: Despite the electrocardiogram (ECG) being a critical bedside diagnostic tool, evidence suggests suboptimal ECG interpretation competence among doctors worldwide. Limited research exists evaluating the ECG interpretation skills of South African junior doctors. This study addresses an important knowledge gap in the literature which assesses the knowledge of "must-know" ECG conditions of junior South African doctors, previously identified through a Delphi study. METHODS: This cross-sectional survey assessed ECG interpretation competence among 117 junior doctors across four public hos

Palliative care nurses' strategies when working in private homes-A photo-elicitation study.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: To explore palliative care nurses' work experiences caring for patients at the end of life in private homes. BACKGROUND: The home continues to be a desired place for care and dying; however, professional competence is needed and specialist palliative care nurses play a crucial role, often highly valued by patients and their family members. The private home as a physical work environment for nurses is explored, with both positive and negative aspects being described. To ensure future high-quality end-of-life care, there is a need to describe how palliative care nurses work…

[Communication in later life under institutional conditions : Professional perspectives on communication of ageing people with profound intellectual and multiple disabilities].

BACKGROUND: For people with (profound) intellectual and multiple disabilities verbal language is often not the primary means of communication. Communication is closely tied to familiar persons and the interpretation of individual forms of expression. In later life health-related changes, the loss of social relationships and institutional transitions can substantially impair communication. OBJECTIVE: Based on group interviews with professionals this paper examines the significance of communication partners, the professional and institutional prerequisites for successful communication in later

"To be culturally competent is to be willing to learn about the differences and to acknowledge them"- a qualitative study on Polish medical students' attitudes towards cross-cultural competence development.

BACKGROUND: Changes in Polish demographic data with a growing number of culturally and linguistically diverse patients stipulate new directions in medical education to prepare future physicians to work effectively across cultures. However, little is known about Polish medical students' willingness to gain cross-cultural knowledge and skills, desire to get engaged in interactions with patients from diverse cultural backgrounds, expectations and needs concerning cross-cultural training as well as challenges they face in the path to cultural competence. METHODS: Therefore, in this study, we cond

Self-concept of children with cerebral palsy compared with that of children without impairment.

This study examined whether the self-concept of children with cerebral palsy (CP) differed from that of children without impairment. Forty-seven children (24 males, 23 females; mean age 11y 8mo [SD 2y 6mo]) with spastic diplegia or hemiplegia were matched with children without impairment. The level of disability of the children with CP was classified as Gross Motor Function Classification System Level I (n=24), Level II (n=16), or Level III (n=7). The 36-item Self-Perception Profile for Children was used to assess six domains of self-concept. No difference was found between the groups for Glob
