Socioeconomic factors, perceived control and self-reported health in Russia. A cross-sectional survey.

Russia has the lowest life expectancy among industrialised countries, but little is known about other health outcomes and determinants of health in the Russian population. Here we report a cross-sectional study in a national sample of the Russian population of social and psychosocial determinants of two self-reported health indicators: self-rated health (shown to predict mortality in prospective studies) and physical functioning (validated against more objective health measures). A multi-stage sample of the Russian population aged 18 years and more was interviewed (n=1599, response rate 66%).

Maternal childhood abuse and children's emotional-behavioral difficulties: Intergenerational transmission via birth outcomes and psychosocial health.

Understanding the mechanisms and psychosocial pathways potentially underlying the association between maternal childhood abuse exposure and poor child health and wellbeing is important to inform opportunities for support and intervention early in the period of becoming a parent. The aim of the study was to investigate whether adverse birth outcomes and psychosocial health issues (maternal depressive symptoms, exposure to intimate partner violence in the first postnatal year) are potential mechanisms underlying the association between maternal childhood abuse and children's emotional-behavioral

Predicting the psychosocial outcome of epilepsy surgery: A longitudinal perspective on the 'burden of normality'.

Good seizure outcomes and good psychosocial outcomes following epilepsy surgery do not necessarily follow one from the other. This study explored the relationship between several presurgical psychosocial characteristics and postsurgical quality-of-life outcomes. The study aimed to develop the concept of 'the burden of normality' and identify risk factors for a poor psychosocial outcome that could be targeted with ameliorative presurgery cognitive behavioral techniques. Data were collected from 77 epilepsy surgery patients from three UK epilepsy centers and presurgery and postsurgery follow-up

Beyond health-related quality of life: initial psychometric validation of a new scale for addressing the gap in assessing the full range of alopecia areata psychosocial burden.

BACKGROUND: Patients with alopecia areata (AA) report a broad range of psychosocial outcomes beyond those assessed in existing health-related quality of life measures. Yet, to date, no psychometrically validated scale based on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) appears to exist to comprehensively measure these AA-specific psychosocial outcomes. OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to develop such a scale, the Scale of Alopecia Areata Distress (SAAD), and to provide its initial validation evidence. METHODS: Using existing qualitative research on PROs for patients with AA, a pool of 144 i

Psychosocial and emotional well-being of Syrian refugee children and adolescents in Jordan: In-camp versus out-of-camp comparative analysis.

There is a notable gap in understanding how different living arrangements influence the psychosocial and emotional well-being of Syrian refugee children and adolescents. Moreover, limited literature exists on the comparison between in-camp and out-of-camp living situations. The aim of this study was to compare the psychosocial and emotional status between camp and non-camp Syrian refugee children and adolescents living in Jordan. A nationwide school survey was conducted in Jordan from December 2022 to April 2023 and targeted children (8-11 years) and adolescents (12-18 years), encompassing Jor

Unseen struggles: a narrative review of psychosocial and family outcomes following pediatric stroke.

Pediatric stroke results in complex sequelae that extend beyond motor and cognitive impairments to include significant psychological and psychosocial challenges for both affected children and their families. This narrative review synthesized peer-reviewed studies published in English between 2000 and November 2025, identified through searches in PubMed and Web of Science using keywords related to pediatric stroke and psychosocial outcomes. Eligible studies examined psychological, social, and family-related outcomes, and findings were integrated through a narrative synthesis due to substantial

Treatment outcomes in patients with internet addiction: a clinical pilot study on the effects of a cognitive-behavioral therapy program.

Internet addiction is regarded as a growing health concern in many parts of the world with prevalence rates of 1-2% in Europe and up to 7% in some Asian countries. Clinical research has demonstrated that Internet addiction is accompanied with loss of interests, decreased psychosocial functioning, social retreat, and heightened psychosocial distress. Specialized treatment programs are needed to face this problem that has recently been added to the appendix of the DSM-5. While there are numerous studies assessing clinical characteristics of patients with Internet addiction, the knowledge about t…

Allostatic load profiles, resilience, and psychosocial adaptation in young adults.

INTRODUCTION: Allostatic load (AL) reflects the cumulative physiological burden on the body, quantified using biomarkers across multiple systems. The current study identified latent AL profiles in young adults and examined whether resilience moderates associations between AL and depressive symptoms, social functioning, and role functioning. METHODS: A total of 165 nonclinical young adults (84 women; aged 19-30 years) provided data on 15 biomarkers spanning the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, oxidative stress, inflammatory-immune, lipid/glucose-metabolic, and renal systems, which were z-s
