In this paper the humidity sensing properties of layers prepared by a new method for obtaining doped tin oxide are studied. Different techniques-SEM, EDS in SEM, TEM, SAED, AES and electrical measurements-are used for detailed characterization of the thin layers. The as-deposited layers are amorphous with great specific area and low density. They are built up of a fine grained matrix, consisting of Sn- and Te-oxides, and a nanosized dispersed phase of Te, Sn and/or SnTe. BACKGROUND: Hand foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common childhood manifestation of enterovirus (EV) infection. It predominantly affects young children, and has been mainly associated with coxsackievirus (CV) A16 and EV 71.
OBJECTIVES: We report an unusual cluster of adult patients with HFMD.

A liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization/tandem mass spectrometry method for the quantitation of psilocin in plasma is presented. Sample workup was performed with mixed-mode solid-phase extraction using ascorbic acid and nitrogen for drying to protect the unstable analyte. Calibration curves were linear from 2 to 100 ng/mL, and no selectivity problems occurred. The limit of detection was 0.1 ng/mL, and the limit of quantitation was 0.34 ng/mL. Recovery was >86% and matrix effects were <110%. Both were reproducible. Interday and intraday precisions at different concentrations were 1.5-4.

BACKGROUND: Helicobacter pylori requires frequent passage at 37 °C with reduced oxygen tension to maintain viability, and recovery from frozen stocks can be unpredictable and slow. Agar stab cultures were assessed as a possible means of maintaining viability without the need to passage every 4-7 days.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Agar stabs prepared from either Brucella or Brain Heart Infusion media were inoculated deeply with H. pylori strains or H. felis and grown under varying conditions for up to 13 weeks. Subcultures were prepared from these stabs at various intervals to test for viability.

We report three patients with a history of neuroleptic malignant syndrome for whom modified electroconvulsive therapy (m-ECT) was scheduled. Two patients suffered from schizophrenia, and one suffered from depression. Their symptoms, such as hyperthermia, consciousness disturbance, myotonus, tremor, sweating, and tachycardia, improved gradually with administration of dantrolene and fluid infusion. However, their psychotic state was exacerbated. Therefore, m-ECT was scheduled. When patients were restless at the hospital ward, they were sedated with propofol and transferred to the operating room.

We report the case of a spontaneous posterior tracheal wall rupture following a cough. A 67-year-old woman with a history of longstanding treatment with corticosteroids (8 years) for Giant Cell Arteritis had general anesthesia for cataract removal.
