We present a unique case of urothelial carcinoma of the right renal pelvis. It occurred in a 58-year-old woman. The tumor was located in the renal pelvis with extension into the adjacent renal medulla and cortex. Two years after surgical excision the patient is free of recurrence and metastasis. The tumor was well demarcated, without capsule, firm, solid, and whitish on the cut surface. It was 3x4 cm in largest diameter and without signs of necroses and hemorrhages. Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) typically occurs in the abdomen but may also present at other sites. We report six cases of paratesticular DSRCT. We have previously produced a monoclonal antibody (mAb), B1D6, reactive with a 37 kD placental IgG Fc-binding molecule (FcR), recently identified as annexin II. Annexin II is an intracellular molecule found in several cell types, including endothelium and monocytes. Since soluble Fc-binding molecules are of importance in the regulation of the immune response, we have now used B1D6 in a competitive ELISA to study levels of soluble annexin II in human sera.
