BACKGROUND: Lipschütz ulcers are characterized by painful vulvar ulceration, most commonly in young women. Because these lesions are so rarely seen, the diagnosis can be challenging.
CASE: An 18-year-old woman, without any prior sexual activity, developed painful blue vulval lesions. These became necrotizing ulcers, and she began antiviral therapy for presumptive herpes infection. Herpes cultures, however, were negative. Serology consistent with a recent Epstein-Barr virus infection resulted in a diagnosis of Lipschütz ulcers.

During the past 10 years, 122 patients with ulcerative colitis were diagnosed by double-contrast barium enema and colonofiberscopy with endoscopic biopsy. Among them, five patients (4%) had longitudinal ulcers and eccentric deformities in the colon. Other radiologic findings included thumbprinting (two cases), sacculations (two cases), and inflammatory polyps (four cases). The possibility of the concomitance of ischemic colitis in cases of ulcerative colitis is discussed, due to their radiographic similarities.

The term "Marjolin's ulcer" describes the formation of a malignant tumour in chronically inflamed skin such as non-healing ulcers or previously traumatized, burned or scarred tissue. Usually the patient sustains tissue damage with scarring or chronic ulcer for several decades prior to diagnosis. Marjolin's ulcers are generally recognized as very aggressive tumours with high mortality. A chronic ulcer or scar suddenly changing in characteristics should lead physicians to perform a diagnostic survey.

During a period of 10 years, 10 cases of marginal ulcer (MU) after surgery for duodenal ulcer were evaluated retrospectively. The most common cause of MU was inadequate gastric resection plus incomplete vagotomy; the second common cause was incomplete vagotomy. In one case, the MU could be ascribed to malignant gastrinoma. Transarterial angiographic embolization using coils is an effective, common, and safe treatment for non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) refractory to endoscopic therapy/management. Coil migration is a complication that can lead to rebleeding.
