Myoepithelioma is a rare neoplasm of the salivary glands, generally occurring in the parotid gland and less often in the minor accessory salivary gland of the oral cavity. The histological appearance includes solid, myxoid and reticular growth patterns. Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) together with clinical, pathomorphological and immunohistological methods, a ependymoma is described in a 9-year-old German Shepherd dog, which presented with behavioural and oculocephalic responses and generalised ataxia. The ependymoma, 9 x 6 x 5mm in size, was localised intra-axially in the right interventricular foramen and hydrocephalus was observed by MRI. Microscopically, the tumour was composed of pseudorosettes, and immunohistochemical examination revealed vimentin and glial fibrillary acidic protein immunoreactivity in the neoplastic cells.

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a benign mensenchymal neoplasm of spindle-cell origin. The authors report the case of a 50-year-old man with SFT arising from the meninges of the left parasellar region with cavernous sinus involvement. The tumor was demonstrated isointense on T1-weighted and heterogeneously hypointense on T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with strong contrast enhancement. The preoperative MRI diagnosis was meningioma or hemangiopericytoma. Pathological study revealed an SFT that stained positive immunohistochemically for CD34 and vimentin.

A solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the parapharyngeal space presented with local symptoms (hearing loss, nasal obstruction, and paralysis of the soft palate and tongue). SFT, originally described as a mesothelial tumor of the pleura, now is recognized as a mesenchymal tumor that occurs in different locations. In the head and neck region, about 50 cases have been reported. This is the fifth published report of an SFT of the parapharyngeal space. The diagnosis was confirmed by immunohistochemical (positivity for vimentin, CD34, and CD99) and ultrastructural markers (fibroblastic characteristics).

The expression of glial antigens vimentin (VIM) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) is described in the pineal gland of cats and dogs from the first postnatal days to adulthood. VIM immunopositive cells were observed from the first postnatal days in both species. GFAP expression starts from the second postnatal week. In adults, a notable population of stellate cells immunopositive for GFAP and VIM was found dispersed throughout the gland. According to their immunocytochemical profile, these cells could be identified as astrocytes.

A 72-year-old man presented with a 15 x 12 x 5 cm cystic and necrotic tumor involving the superior region of the stomach and the retroperitoneum down to the transverse colon and extending laterally from the left lobe of the liver to the spleen without involving either organ. Light microscopy showed the tumor cells to be arranged in an organoid pattern. Immunocytochemistry showed a strong reaction for desmin and vimentin. Electron microscopy demonstrated features suggestive of an alveolar soft part sarcoma.

A well-characterized monoclonal antibody against human lysosomal alpha-glucosidase has been used for the immunohistochemical localization of the enzyme in cultured human skin fibroblasts.
