Massive abdominal wall hematoma following a dog bite: a case report.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Dog bite injuries are a major global public health concern, predominantly affecting the extremities. Abdominal … ntrast-enhanced CT revealed a 4.7 × 10.8 × 8.9 cm hematoma in the subcutaneous plane of the oblique abdominal muscles. The hematoma was aspirated, and necrotic tissue was debrided. The patient received tetanus prophylaxis and broad-spectrum antibiotics, with favorable postoperative recovery. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Abdominal wall hematomas from dog bites are rare and …

[Prophylaxis and treatment of postoperative complications of abdominoplasty].

Results of abdominoplasty conduction in 206 patients were analyzed. Early postoperative complications are studied and methods of their prophylaxis are elaborated. Minimization of the local complications rate was achieved due to estimation of the anterior abdominal wall state, its angioarchitectonics, the apparatus control of PO2 in cutaneous-subcutaneous flap, rational combination of dermolipectomy and liposuction, prophylaxis of microcirculation disorders. In detailed analysis of remote, first of all, esthetic results of the anterior abdominal wall plasty we have concluded about necessity of

Dengue fever complicated with bilateral Psoas hematoma and superadded infection: A case report.

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) typically presents with various bleeding manifestations such as epistaxis, gum bleeding, and gastrointestinal bleeding. However, spontaneous large muscle hematoma formation is a rare complication. This case report discusses a patient with DHF who developed bilateral psoas muscle hematomas, a very uncommon presentation. The patient experienced acute abdominal pain and was diagnosed with psoas muscle hematomas complicated by bacterial infection. Conservative treatment, including fluid management, blood transfusions, and antibiotics, led to the patient's full recove

Rectus abdominis muscle injuries in elite handball players: management and rehabilitation.

Muscle injuries generally occur in two-joint muscles with a high percentage of type II fibers during the performance of eccentric activity. Some muscle injuries, such as those located in the adductor longus, a monoarticular muscle, as well as rectus abdominis do not fully comply with these requirements. This study examines five cases of elite handball players with ruptured rectus abdominals. Sonographically, lesions in rectus abdominis are shown as a disruption of the fibrillar pattern with a hematic suffusion that invades the entire lesion. In some of the cases, the ultrasound study was compl

A New Protocol to Treat Abdominal Subcutaneous Fat Combining Microwaves and Flat magnetic stimulation.

Background: A healthy lifestyle is not always able to improve the abdomen’s appearance, especially in those patients who have undergone sudden weight changes. Objective: We aimed at evaluating the efficacy of combined microwaves and flat magnetic stimulation (FMS) to treat abdominal localized adiposity and laxity. Methods: Twenty-five patients were subjected to two treatment sessions per month on the abdominal area with microwaves. FMS was also performed twice per week, with a minimum of two days between each session for two months. The technology uses three types of different protocols: massa

Avoiding abdominal flank bulge after anterolateral approaches to the thoracolumbar spine: cadaveric study and electrophysiological investigation.

OBJECT: The thoracolumbar junction is frequently accessed through an anterolateral approach with the incision and muscle dissection extending from the lower thoracic region to the lateral border of the rectus abdominis muscle. This approach is frequently associated with the subsequent development of an unsightly and uncomfortable relaxation of the ipsilateral abdominal wall, or flank bulge, caused by denervation injury to the intercostal nerves. However, the etiology of this complication is not widely recognized by spine surgeons. The object of this study was to better define the relevant anat

3D virtual planning and use of botulinum toxin A in prehabilitation of transdiaphragmatic intercostal hernia: a multidisciplinary approach.

Transdiaphragmatic intercostal hernias represent rare injuries resulting most commonly from blunt trauma. When extending into the intercostal and diaphragmatic regions, these hernias pose significant diagnostic and reconstructive challenges. We report the case of a patient with a right thoracoabdominal mass that was identified on a CT scan 4 months after blunt thoracic trauma. Imaging revealed a large right posterior transdiaphragmatic hernia with intercostal extension between the 8th and 9th ribs, avulsion of the internal oblique and transversus abdominis muscles, and costal cartilage disinse

Double common bile duct: report of a case.

We report a case of double common bile duct. A 51-year-old woman was examined for abdominal pain. Ultrasound revealed a stone of approximately 7 mm in the gallbladder, and abdominal computed tomography revealed air in the intrahepatic bile duct and gallbladder. The endoscopic retrograde cholangiography showed that the contrast medium flowed into the duodenal bulbus from the gallbladder. The diagnosis was inflammatory cholecystoduodenal fistula, and a cholecystectomy was performed. There were no inflammatory changes surrounding the gallbladder. The resected specimen showed that the fistula was

Using intercostal muscle EMG to quantify maternal expulsive efforts during vaginal delivery: a pilot study.

AIMS: The expulsive forces of childbirth can be included among the many potential risk factors implicated in the subsequent development of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) in women. The objective of this study was to devise a non-invasive way to measure abdominal pushing that would accurately represent the expulsive forces during childbirth. METHODS: By means of intravesical and intrauterine manometry, and electromyography (EMG) of intercostal muscles, we quantified these forces in 21 women during vaginal delivery. RESULTS: A mathematical analysis of variance (ANOVA) model showed the integr

Leiomyoma presenting as an anterior vaginal mass.

Leiomyoma, otherwise known as a fibroid, is commonly encountered in the uterus. Vaginal leiomyomas are extremely rare with a relative paucity of cases reported in the literature. Due to the rarity of the disease and complexity of the vaginal anatomy, definitive diagnosis and treatment are challenging. The diagnosis is often only made postoperatively after resection of the mass. They usually arise from the anterior vaginal wall and women may present with dyspareunia, lower abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding or dysuria. Imaging with a transvaginal ultrasound scan and MRI can confirm the vaginal or

A rare case of abdominal cocoon caused by brucellosis.

Brucella is the most common zoonosis in the world and is also included among the neglected endemic zoonoses by the World Health Organization. Its clinical presentation is often vague and it is not frequently suspected. A thorough history of social-economic status and animal exposure is often missed. We present a case of abdominal cocoon in a young patient residing at a dairy farm who tested positive for Brucella serology. Timely diagnosis and management prevented the progression of this debilitating condition to intestinal obstruction.

Diagnostic techniques for diastasis recti.

Diastasis recti (DR) is an abnormality of the anterior abdominal wall, characterized by a separation of the rectus abdominis muscles along the linea alba. A thorough history and physical exam can diagnose most cases of diastasis recti. Classification schemes for diastasis recti have been created based on inter-rectus distance and location of the defect, which can help with management decisions. Imaging modalities such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can aid in the classification of diastasis recti and guide surgical planning. Planning is most impor

Effects of Different Sling Settings on Electromyographic Activities of Selected Trunk Muscles: A Preliminary Research.

INTRODUCTION: The supine and prone sling exercise may facilitate activation of the local trunk muscles. Does the side-lying sling exercise activate trunk muscles more easily than the supine and prone training with sling settings? Clinical work has shown that the side-lying sling exercise could reduce pain in patients with unilateral low back pain (LBP), but the mechanism behind it is unclear. The fundamental purpose of this preliminary study was to examine the electromyography (EMG) characteristics of trunk muscles during different sling lumbar settings on sixteen healthy adults. METHODS: Amp

Segmental zoster abdominal paresis (zoster pseudohernia): a review of the literature.

Herpes zoster is a distinct clinical syndrome that may present with a segmental zoster paresis. Although thoracic dermatomes are the most commonly affected, paresis of the abdominal muscles has been less frequently reported. To review the existing published evidence regarding this unusual clinical entity, a literature search of PubMed and Google was performed. In total, 35 articles that described 36 individual cases were identified. The information from all the cases was tabulated for the analysis. The mean age was 67.5 years. The ratio of men to women was approximately 4:1. The left and right…

[Fascia lata transplant from cadaveric donor in the reconstruction of abdominal wall defects in children].

INTRODUCTION: Abdominal wall closure is not possible in large congenital defects, even after extensively stretching in to enlarge its capacity. The skin coverage is usually adequate but the aponeurotic defect has to be closed temporally using synthetic patches. The use of these materials leads to increase complication such as infection, fistula formation and extrusion. In addition a second operation is required to remove the material and to perform a definitive closure. The role of fascia lata in reconstruction of abdominal wall is well established as free grafts, pedicled flaps or free flaps.

Pseudoexstrophy in a female child.

A six-year-old female patient presenting with a swelling in the infraumbilical part of the abdomen, bulging out on straining, was diagnosed to have pseudoexstrophy bladder. The urinary tract was normal. The patient had bifid clitoris. There was no other associated malformation. Surgical repair of abdominal wall defect was done successfully. A new classification of exstrophy variants is proposed.
