A 62-year-old woman was referred to Gastroenterology appointment due to severe iron deficiency anemia (5.9 g/dL), complaining of asthenia and requiring blood transfusion. The patient denied blood loss. Initial blood test showed a severe iron deficiency, with ferritin of 5ng/mL and transferrin saturation of 2.7%. Folic acid and vitamin B12 were normal. Upper gastroscopy and colonoscopy didn't show any lesions. Abdominopelvic CT and capsule endoscopy were, also, normal.

A 69-year-old white man presented with several episodes of hematochezia. Colonoscopy demonstrated multiple colonic blebs localized mainly in the distal transverse colon. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and computed tomography of the abdomen did not reveal any abnormalities. The patient required several blood transfusions and eventually required a subtotal colectomy with ileosigmoid anastomosis for definitive bleeding control. Pathology was remarkable for multifocal vascular ectasia, consistent with the diagnosis of blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome.

Sixty-two patients presenting with upper abdominal pain of the non-ulcer dyspepsia type, and radiological signs of duodenitis, were investigated for parasites; biopsies of the duodenum were performed, both by capsule and by endoscopy. The findings were compared with a group of 18 healthy controls with and without parasites. The group of 36 patients with parasites showed a significant degree of inflammatory infiltrate compared to the non-parasitized patients and to the control group.

BACKGROUND: To identify the risk factors associated with rebleeding in obscure gastrointestinal bleeding (OGIB) patients from southern China.
METHODS: This retrospective study involved 229 patients who underwent small bowel endoscopy in our hospital between 1 January 2018 and 1 December 2020. The clinical characteristics and risk factors related to rebleeding were retrospectively evaluated.
