Daily Mindfulness and Depressive Symptoms Among Parents of Autistic Children: A Dynamic Structural Equation Modelling Study.

Elevated depressive symptoms among parents of autistic children are well documented and associated with poorer mental health. Mindfulness has been identified as a protective factor against mental health difficulties, but its day-to-day associations with depressive symptoms in this population remain unclear. A total of 210 Chinese parents of autistic children participated in this 15-day diary study, during which they completed daily measures of mindfulness and depressive symptoms. The data were analysed using dynamic structural equation modelling. Results indicated that (1) parents' daily mindf

Cultivating healthcare innovators: a cross-sectional study on entrepreneurial abilities and influencing factors among nursing undergraduates.

BACKGROUND: The rapid transformation of healthcare environments, intensifying employment competition, and emerging entrepreneurial opportunities in healthcare highlight entrepreneurial ability as an essential quality for nursing undergraduates to address professional challenges. Current educational systems inadequately cultivate critical entrepreneurial skills, and research in this area remains scarce. A systematic evaluation of their entrepreneurial abilities and influencing factors is urgently needed to bridge the education-practice gap and empower nursing professionals to drive innovation-d

Prediction of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus: A Nomogram Model Incorporating Lifestyle, Nutrition and Health Literacy Factors.

Background: Over the past several decades, the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has risen markedly worldwide, posing serious threats to both maternal and child health by increasing adverse pregnancy outcomes and long-term metabolic risks. Developing effective risk prediction tools for early detection and intervention has become the most important clinical priority in this field. The current GDM prediction models primarily rely on non-modifiable factors, for example age and body mass index, while modifiable factors such as lifestyle and health literacy, although strongly associ

Perceived Unmet Need for Care and Barriers to Care Among Individuals with Mental Health Issues: A Meta-analysis.

Unmet needs refer to the gap between the health services individuals require and what they receive. Individuals with mental health issues often face barriers preventing them from accessing the care they need. A meta-analysis was conducted to estimate the pooled prevalence of unmet needs for care and barriers to care among individuals with mental health issues. The databases PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were searched for relevant studies published from December 1, 1985 to August 1, 2024. Following the screening process, 204 included studies remained for meta-analysis. In

Understanding global research trends in the control and prevention of infectious diseases for children: Insights from text mining and topic modeling.

INTRODUCTION: The emergence of novel infectious diseases has amplified the urgent need for effective prevention strategies, especially ones targeting vulnerable populations such as children. Factors such as the high incidence of both emerging and existing infectious diseases, delays in vaccinations, and routine exposure in communal settings heighten children's susceptibility to infections. Despite this pressing need, a comprehensive exploration of research trends in this domain remains lacking. This study aims to address this gap by employing text mining and modeling techniques to conduct a co

Mexican-origin parent and child reported neighborhood factors and youth substance use.

BACKGROUND: Structural oppression affects health behaviors through residence in suboptimal neighborhoods and exposure to community violence. Youth and parents report perceptions of neighborhood factors that can affect youth substance use behaviors. Given that Latinx youth report higher levels of perceived community violence than other racial and ethnic groups, it is imperative to examine how youth- and parent-perceived neighborhood-level factors may relate to youth substance use. METHODS: Data were collected using clinical interviews with family triads (fathers, mothers, and youth) and parent

Precursors to masochistic and dependent character development.

Due to the extreme states of masochism, dependency, and narcissistic rage that these patients experience, the treatment must be attuned to the inevitable periods of regression and primitive defense. The patient feels compelled to be a servant to the object, yet is furious at this less than equal status. The alternating states of idealizing the object in a masochistic fashion, the anger at the lack of self importance, and the desperate hope for soothing from that object create an externally focused character structure, which generally leads to a pattern of acting out, the lack of internal linki

Understanding a Minority Group's (Roma) Experiences of Access and Quality in Maternity Services.

BACKGROUND: Maternal health is a fundamental human right, ensuring that all women have access to non-discriminatory, equitable and high-quality maternal and reproductive healthcare. Minority groups and migrant populations face significant challenges in accessing maternity services. The Roma are Europe's largest and most marginalised ethnic group. Ireland has a sizable population of Roma migrants, and there is limited information on their experiences of maternal care in Ireland. Their participation in research and user panels is challenging as many lack proficiency in English and tend to have l

Association of Timely Outpatient Mental Health Services for Youths After Psychiatric Hospitalization With Risk of Death by Suicide.

IMPORTANCE: Timely outpatient follow-up care after psychiatric hospitalization is an established mental health quality indicator and considered an important component of suicide prevention, yet little is known about whether follow-up care is associated with a reduced risk of suicide soon after hospital discharge. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether receipt of outpatient care within 7 days of psychiatric hospital discharge is associated with a reduced risk of subsequent suicide among child and adolescent inpatients and examine factors associated with timely follow-up care. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PAR

Newborn screening for human immunodeficiency virus infection in the Bronx, NY, and evolving public health policy.

New advances in the diagnosis and treatment of HIV infection continue to propel changes in public understanding of HIV infection and the administration of public health law. Over the past decade, New York State has moved from a policy of blind newborn screening for seroprevalence data to mandatory HIV testing as part of the statewide Newborn Screening (NBS) Program. A new statewide program of expedited HIV testing (48-hr turnaround results) of pregnant women and newborns (whose HIV status is unknown at the time of delivery) began in the summer of 1999. To better understand the impact this prog

Predicting Homelessness among Emerging Adults Aging Out of Foster Care.

This study examines risk and protective factors associated with experiencing homelessness in the year after "aging out" of foster care. Using a state-level integrated administrative database, we identified 1,202 emerging adults in Washington State who exited foster care between July 2010 and June 2012. Initial bivariate analyses were conducted to assess the association between candidate predictive factors and an indicator of homelessness in a 12-month follow-up period. After deploying a stepwise regression process, the final logistic regression model included 15 predictive factors. Youth who w

Substance dependency among homeless American Indians.

Extensive qualitative research in the San Francisco Bay Area in California and in Tucson, Arizona, indicates strong associations between substance abuse and homelessness among American Indians. This article takes a comparative approach to describe and analyze precipitating factors and survival patterns of those who are both homeless and who suffer from substance dependency. Possible precipitating factors presented through case studies consider the complex interaction of childhood fostering or adoption into non-Native families, different types of involuntary institutionalization during youth, a
