Anogenital warts (AGWs) are a very common disease. They are caused mostly by low-risk human papillomaviruses (HPV) 6 and 11, particularly the former. Clinical presentation is mostly of growths in the areas of friction of the anogenital region. The treatment is classified as patient/home applied or administered by a professional. There is increasing evidence that the hypnotic cure of warts (infection by the human papilloma virus or HPV) results from activation of an immune response, but whether this is cellular or systemic is unknown. The hypnosis can be by direct suggestion or analytical hypnotherapy when indicated. The evidence is reviewed, and 4 clinical cases suggesting cellular immune response are presented.

A 24-year-old woman presented with genital warts which did not respond to treatment. Biopsy confirmed changes in keeping with a diagnosis of Darier's disease. The patient, however, had no other manifestations of Darier's disease, i.e. family history of skin disease, nail changes or other skin site involvement. We propose that this patient has a form of Darier's disease called genital papular acantholytic dyskeratosis.

PURPOSE: To describe a case of bilateral labial edema in an adolescent patient and review the literature on this rare occurrence.
MATERIAL: A 16-year-old girl was treated for widespread genital condyloma acuminata with CO(2) laser under general anesthesia and local lidocaine injections. Severe bilateral labial edema occurred after 48 hours.
RESULTS: Lidocaine and Latex dermal patch tests for delayed hypersensitivity were negative. The edema resolved following treatment with local ice packs and magnesium sulfate compresses for 2 weeks.

A 70-year-old man had undergone urethral dilatation with bougie for 8 months following transurethral resection of the prostate and complained papillary masses at the urethral meatus. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Imiquimod (Aldara) is an immune response modifier used primarily to treat anogenital warts. Imiquimod induces cytokines and enhances cell-mediated cytolytic antiviral activity in vivo. It exhibits antiviral and antitumor effects; however, it does not exhibit direct antiviral effects in vitro. By inducing cytokines, such as interferon a, imiquimod stimulates both the innate immune response and the cellular arm of acquired immunity. Currently, imiquimod is approved for use in the treatment of external genital and perianal warts in adults.
