Pediatric High Labial Frenum Management: Utilizing a Diode Laser for the Transformation of the Smile of an Eight-Year-Old Child.

Median diastema is a physiological occurrence that is frequently seen in the maxillary jaw. Therefore, a median diastema has been associated with a wide range of etiological variables, including thumb sucking, supernumerary teeth, tongue thrusting, some dentoalveolar discrepancy, and hypodontia. Patient esthetic and function demands are both negated by the labial frenum's abnormal location in relation to the maxillary anterior teeth, which results in diastema and gingival recession. Lasers are now being used in several fields of dentistry as an alternative to conventional scalpel operations. F

A Large Dentigerous Cyst in a Child as a Complication of Deciduous Molar Endodontic Treatment: An Interesting Case Report with Short Literature Review.

This study presents a case report of an inflammatory dentigerous cyst of tooth #35, associated with its previously endodontically treated deciduous predecessor. Cystic lesion growth caused impaction of the second premolar, displacing it closer to the lower border of the mandible. The lesion represents a typical dentigerous cyst that possibly arises in association with periapical inflammation of a deciduous molar involving the follicle of the premolars. This report highlights the inflammatory etiology of dentigerous cysts, which mainly occur in mixed dentition. A 12-year-old patient was referre

Microbial Relationship of Carious Deciduous Molars and Adjacent First Permanent Molars.

(1) Epidemiological studies have shown that deciduous molar caries are related to and more severe than permanent molar caries. This study aimed to investigate whether caries subtypes in deciduous molars were associated with caries in first permanent molars and to explore taxonomic and functional profiles of the microbiota involved in different subtypes. (2) 42 mixed-dentition children were recruited and were divided into DMC (carious deciduous molars but caries-free first permanent molars; n = 14), C (carious deciduous and first permanent molars; n = 13), and control (n = 15) groups. Can lingual spurs alter the oral health-related quality of life during anterior open bite interceptive treatment? A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: The use of lingual spurs has been described as one efficient option, with great stability of results, but with scarce information of toleration for use in the mixed and permanent dentition phases. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of lingual spurs on the oral health-related quality of life of children and/or adolescents during anterior open bite treatment. METHODS: The review was recorded in the PROSPERO database. Eight electronic databases and partial gray literature were searched, without restrictions until march 2022. A manual search was also perf

Does interceptive extraction of multiple primary teeth increase the chances of spontaneous eruption of permanent maxillary canines positioned palatally or centrally in the alveolar crest? A Systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Extraction of primary maxillary canines in the mixed dentition has been suggested to increase the rate of normal eruption of displaced permanent canines (DPCs). In this study we assessed whether extracting multiple primary teeth increases the rate of normal eruption of DPCs positioned palatally or centrally in the alveolar crest. METHODS: Unrestricted searches in 8 databases were performed up to March 2021. We looked for data on the prevalence of physiologic eruption of DPCs and the changes in their position from randomized controlled trials. The risk of bias was assessed using

Does breastfeeding have a long-term positive effect on dental occlusion?

BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding produces beneficial effects on a baby's early growth and development, and general well-being. Some studies have associated breastfeeding with better occlusal development. The aim of this study was to assess the long-term effect of breastfeeding on occlusal development in children. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate the occlusions of 320 children belonging to the Spanish INMA Project cohort, monitored from gestation onwards. The association between the duration of breastfeeding and different occlusal traits in mixed dentition

Sub-lethal effects induced by a mixture of different pharmaceutical drugs in predicted environmentally relevant concentrations on Lithobates catesbeianus (Shaw, 1802) (Anura, ranidae) tadpoles.

The increasing consumption of medications by humans has negative effects such as the increased disposal of these compounds in the environment. Little is known about how the disposal of a "drug mix" (DM) in aquatic ecosystems can affect their biota. Thus, we evaluated whether the exposure of Lithobates casteibeianus tadpoles to a DM composed of different medication classes (antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, anxiolytic, analgesic, and antacid drugs)-at environmentally relevant concentrations-may change their oral morphology, trigger behavioral disorders, and have mutagenic effects o

Maxillary labial frenum morphology and midline diastema among 3 to 12-year-old schoolgoing children in Sri Ganganagar city: A cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Dentofacial aesthetics plays an important role in social interaction and psychological well-being because it affects how people perceive themselves and how they are perceived by society. The maxillary labial frenum is a fold of tissue, usually triangular in shape, extending from the maxillary midline area of the gingiva into the vestibule and mid portion of the upper lip. Maxillary anterior spacing or diastema is a common aesthetic complaint of patients and is frequently seen in children especially in the mixed dentition stage. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: 1. To estimate the prevalence

Prediction of the size of unerupted canines and premolars in an Iranian population.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: One of the important aspects of diagnosis and treatment planning in the mixed dentition is estimation of the size of unerupted permanent canines and premolars. One of the most commonly used the prediction methods are Tanaka and Johnston, which are based on data from a sample of Northern European descent children. The accuracy of this method when applied to a different ethnic population is questionable. The aim of this study was to determine the modified equations from Tanaka and Johnston for Iranian population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was an analytic and cross-se

New immature hominin fossil from European Lower Pleistocene shows the earliest evidence of a modern human dental development pattern.

Here we present data concerning the pattern of dental development derived from the microcomputed tomography (microCT) study of a recently discovered immature hominin mandible with a mixed dentition recovered from the TD6 level of the Gran Dolina Lower Pleistocene cave site in Sierra de Atapuerca, northern Spain. These data confirm our previous results that nearly 1 million years ago at least one European hominin species had a fully modern pattern of dental development with a clear slowdown in the development of the molar field regarding the anterior dental field. Furthermore, using available i

Dentofacial Orthopaedics in Cleft Lip and Palate: A Comprehensive Review.

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is a congenital craniofacial anomaly characterised by disruption of the maxilla's form and growth, which involves both a defect in the bony structure and soft tissue that needs multidisciplinary rehabilitation. Dentofacial orthopaedic procedures are extraoral and intraoral forces used to move bone segments and shape and mould future development of the maxillofacial region from the neonatal stage to skeletal maturity. This narrative review summarises current orthopaedic techniques that are used before primary surgery, such as passive maxillary plates, active pin-retai

Rotational Composite Flap Technique for Primary Incomplete Cleft Lip Nose Repair.

BACKGROUND: Primary cheilorhinoplasty has become widely accepted owing to evidence of improved outcomes and need for fewer secondary revisions. The rotational advancement concept was described initially as a secondary treatment for cleft nasal deformity in combination with buccal mucosal graft for the donor site. The presented technique is based on medial rotation of a vestibular flap composed by the alar cartilage and skin without donor site grafting and has been used by the author since 2016. The aim of this study is to evaluate the long-term outcomes of this unilateral primary cleft rhinopl
