We had previously investigated skin problems of musicians (N = 117) working in a professional orchestra. The results of this survey suggest a significant incidence of occupational and stress-related skin problems in musicians such as hyperhydrosis, lichen planus, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis and urticaria. It was thought that emotional factors exacerbate their problems [6]. This article discusses the importance of psychiatric consultations in dermatologic problems.

The California Pesticide Illness Surveillance Program collects, investigates, abstracts, and records reports received from physicians. This study investigated the disease spectrum in 209 patients with different types of scalp scaly cutaneous diseases. The quality of life of patients with the diseases were also analyzed. We found that seborrheic dermatitis (52.6%), dandruff (14.4%), eczema (17.7%) and psoriasis (15.3%) are common scalp scaly diseases. Eczema and psoriasis can be restricted to the scalp. It has been possible to identify pyogenic organisms in the corrosion inhibiting oils of tubes, resulting in pyodermia. Degreasing media with heavy alkaline reaction may result in still further diseases of the skin. The problem can be solved by using tubes not protected against corrosion. A list has been compiled showing pathogenic agents which can be isolated from oils. Under certain conditions cutting oil may prove to be a pool of pathogenic agents.

Irritant skin changes are a well known problem in nursing services. Especially geriatric nurses often complain of hand dermatitis, most likely induced by frequent washing and hand disinfections. In this cohort study, demographic data and skin changes from 521 nurse trainees were recorded.
