The authors present results of combined treatment of 60 patients with chronic atrophic gastritis with riboxine. A favorable effect was registered on clinical symptoms, acid-forming function, ultrastructure of gastric mucosa. The above positive effects of riboxine make it useful in combined treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis.

Aqueous extracts of guaraná were studied in terms of effects on the aggregation of human and rabbit platelets. Guaraná extracts have anti-aggregatory and de-aggregatory actions on platelet aggregation induced by ADP or arachidonate but not by collagen. The active material was shown to be water soluble and heat resistant and appeared to be different from salicylates, nicotinic acid or known xanthines. Guaraná extracts inhibited platelet aggregation in rabbits following either intravenous or oral administration.

The serum concentration of parathormone is usually normal in hypophosphatasia, a rare disease with a defect of bone mineralisation and low serum alkaline phosphatase activity. A case of olecranon bursitis in an 81-year-old patient is presented. Analysis of the bursal fluid revealed positive birefringent crystals; radiographs showed calcifications in the distal triceps tendon. A bursectomy was performed. Acrylic acid is a bulk chemical predominantly produced via fossil-based processes. Here, we repurpose and engineer a thiamine diphosphate (ThDP)-dependent enzyme to catalyze direct H 2 PO 4 - elimination from dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) for acrylic acid synthesis.
