BACKGROUND: Split hand/foot malformation (SHFM) is a group of congenital skeletal disorders which may occur either as an isolated abnormality or in syndromic forms with extra-limb manifestations. Chromosomal micro-duplication or micro-triplication involving 17p13.3 region has been described as the most common cause of split hand/foot malformation with long bone deficiency (SHFLD) in several different Caucasian and Asian populations. Gene dosage effect of the extra copies of BHLHA9 gene at this locus has been implicated in the pathogenesis of SHFLD.

To assess mechanisms that cause generalized osteoporosis in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), we measured bone mineral density (BMD) by dual photon absorptiometry in the lumbar spine and femoral neck of 111 patients with RA. BMD was significantly reduced at both sites in these patients. Physical activity correlated significantly with BMD in patients with RA, and was found, by multiple regression analysis, to be a significant predictor of femoral bone density in female patients. The outcomes of treatment in 280 children with tuberculosis of bones and joints are analyzed. A general chemotherapy scheme for tuberculosis makes treatment regimens recommend for use in different forms of osteoarticular tuberculosis, which have been differentiated by the site and rate of an osseous and intrathoracic process and by the magnitude of their complications. This study focuses on implementing a composition of the natural flavonoid dihydroquercetin (DHQ) with L-lysine in the treatment of thermal burns. The wound-healing activity of DHQ is well-known. The addition of amino acid to the composition increases the water solubility of the flavonoids, providing an opportunity to develop a spray dosage form.
