Since the mother plays a vital role in the development of her offspring and in the well-being of the family a study was made of the experiences of motherhood amongst two groups of mothers. The groups comprised a group of Tswana speaking and a group of Afrikaans speaking mothers from the Pretoria area. BACKGROUND: Most published reports on SAMD9L-related ataxia-pancytopenia syndrome (ATXPC) have emphasized the hematologic findings. Fewer details are known about the progression of neurologic manifestations and methods for monitoring them.
CASES: We present six individuals from two families transmitting a heterozygous variant in SAMD9L, exhibiting clinical variations in their hematologic and neurologic findings. A familial or sporadic recurrent hydatidiform mole is a rare autosomal recessive condition that has been associated with biallelic mutations in the nucleotide-binding, leucine-rich repeat, pyrin domain 7 (NLRP7) gene (19q13.42). Previous linkage studies in X-linked spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia (SEDL) placed the gene in the region Xp22.2-p22.1 by linkage to DXS41. Here we have extended our earlier studies by analyzing 15 families with 13 markers from the Xp22 region. This study examines the frequency of DSM-III-R personality disorders in parents of 58 patients who were admitted consecutively to a New York State psychiatric hospital with a first admission for a schizophrenia-like psychosis.
