Sodium azulene sulfonate is a water-soluble derivative of azulene which is an antiinflammatory component of chamomile of the family of Asteraceae. Sodium azulene sulfonate is clinically used as a therapeutic agent in the treatment of pharyngitis as well as other inflammatory diseases such as tonsillitis, stomatitis and conjunctivitis. There has been no documentation on the effect of sodium azulene sulfonate on pharyngitis in laboratory models, probably because of no availability of such models. This article summarizes our previously achieved and published results. The method for the determination of bacterial volatile fatty acid patterns (VFA) in clinical samples was elaborated. It employs gas chromatography (GC), solvent extraction or head-space solid phase microextraction (SPME). This method was validated by analyses of reference bacterial strains. After cultivation in defined media, aerobic and facultative anaerobic bacteria provided profiles with a low or none acid content, while anaerobic bacteria provided characteristic but medium-dependent profiles with a higher acid content.

The paper presents a description of a new method for treatment of iris and ciliary body inflammation accompanied with fibrin exudation. We used low-level blue laser destroying a fibrin clot in its initial stage of formation. We also used herapin and ascorbic acid. PURPOSE: To report the treatment of exudative retinal detachment in a patient with nanophthalmos.
METHODS: A 46-year-old man with bilateral nanophthalmos suffered from acute angle-closure glaucoma in his left eye. The first day after a peripheral iridectomy an exudative retinal detachment was observed. Two months later a partial thickness sclerectomy with a central sclerostomy, covered by a thin film of absorbable gelatine, was performed in each quadrant of the left eye.

The outcomes of treatment of 140 patients with tuberculous parapneumatic serous pleurisy are presented, Intrapleural low-energy laser radiation, epicutaneous low-energy pulse radiation, and the successive application of both techniques were used during etiotropic therapy and regular exudate aspirations. There was reduction in the time of exudation into the pleural cavity, as well as recovery with less pronounced pleural impositions.

Examinations of 179 patients with peripapillary geographic choriopathy (PGC) revealed that peripapillary landscape-like foci often involving the macula and periphery of the fundus oculi are the pathognomonic symptom of PGC which permits the diagnosis of the condition without additional examinations in more than 90% of patients. The incidence and types of complications are assessed. The possibility of a unilateral disease is proven. Previous data on the nontuberculous origin of PGC have been confirmed.
