BACKGROUND: Ankle fractures are well-documented in snow sports, but concomitant Achilles tendon and peroneal tendon ruptures are rare. This case report presents a previously unreported combination of Achilles tendon rupture, peroneal tendon rupture, and fibular fracture in a snowboarder, highlighting the complex nature of diagnosis, management, and rehabilitation.
CASE SUMMARY: A 50-year-old male snowboarder presented with severe right ankle pain following a high speed tumbling crash. Initial evaluation revealed an Achilles tendon rupture and a non-displaced distal lateral malleolus fracture.

Fractures of the tibia shaft are the most common long bone fractures, especially in young male adults. Due to specific anatomical features, these fractures are more common than any other long-bone fracture. This is one of the main reasons they are associated with twice the incidences of deep infection compared with any other bone and can be combined with the presence of segmental bone defect. This is a case presentation of a 9-year-old boy who sustained a rare Salter-Harris type IV distal fibular fracture including an avulsion fracture of the anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament at the fibular attachment. INTRODUCTION: Type 6 physeal injuries, described by Rang as a displacement of the perichondrial ring usually caused by a lawn-mower scalping mechanism or a closed trauma to the distal femoral physis avulsed by the lateral collateral ligament, are extremely rare. We present a difficult case of hypertrophic nonunion associated with a large cavity in the lower third of the femur. The cavity had been created by a windshield-wiper effect after failure of fixation with a Schneider intramedullary rod in a patient weighing 450 pounds. One hundred thirty-one patients with 169 stress fractures were treated between January 1984 and January 1990. The highest incidence was in teenage girls (25.5%), and the predominant sites were tibia (31.5%) and femur (12.5%).
