Exploring the experiences of Colombian family carers of children with traumatic brain injuries.

PURPOSE: Brain injury is a leading cause of death and disability, with family carers playing a critical support role. In Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs), research has largely focused on quantitative data, limiting insight into carers' lived experiences. This study explores the experiences and support needs of family carers of children with traumatic brain injury in Colombia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Semi-structured online interviews were conducted with carers recruited through voluntary sector organisations. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. RESULTS: Three main themes and ei

Barriers to Patient Referral and Completion of CAR T-Cell Therapy for Relapsed/Refractory Large B-Cell Lymphoma.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has improved outcomes for patients with hematologic malignancies such as relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma. However, research indicates that a substantial proportion of medically eligible patients with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma in the United States do not receive CAR T-cell therapy. Multiple barriers across the treatment pathway contribute to the significant gap between patient eligibility and receiving treatment. To further examine these barriers, a multistakeholder panel was convened on October 8, 2025. Key barriers

Fracture and dislocation of a glass intraocular lens optic as a complication of neodymium:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy: Case report and literature review.

UNLABELLED: An 83-year-old man presented with a 1-year history of blurry vision in his left eye. Bilateral cataract surgery and ciliary sulcus posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) implantation had been performed 11 years earlier. The corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was 20/60 in the left eye. Slitlamp examination revealed moderate posterior capsule opacification. Neodymium:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy was performed and complicated by IOL fracture and immediate dislocation of optic fragments into the anterior chamber. An IOL exchange was performed, and the damaged IOL was removed

Diagnosing schistosomiasis.

The ideal diagnostic method for schistosomiasis detection seems to be still far from available. Paucity of egg output in low prevalence situations, low levels of circulating antigens in individuals with low intensity of infection and inadequate specificity of antibody detection systems outline pieces of a puzzle that challenges scientific efforts. Estimated prevalence, financial resources and operational reality must be taken into account when deciding the diagnostic method to be used. A combination of a screening step, using a fast strip test for antibody detection with a parasitological rati

The study analysed the financial benefits of transplantation with peripheral blood stem-cells primed after chemotherapy and growth factor in comparison with bone marrow transplantation. Twenty-three consecutive transplantations were performed during one year: 14 peripheral blood stem-cell (CSC group) and 9 bone marrow transplantations (MO group). No differences in patients characteristics were seen between the two groups except for higher number of "BEAM" conditioning in CSC group. Were analyzed delay in neutrophil and platelet recovery, numbers of days in hospital, with fever, under antibioti

The economics of quitting: estimating the uplift potential of Indian households through tobacco cessation.

Helping financially under-resourced unmarried mothers move forward and flourish: Feasibility findings from an innovative coaching-centered place-based initiative.

Longer-duration, holistic, cohort-based, coach-led interventions may be particularly effective in promoting both economic health and emotional well-being among unmarried mothers living in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Aligning with the 1999 Centers for Disease Control (CDC) framework for program evaluation, this study presents a non-random pragmatic feasibility trial of Moms Moving Forward (MMF), a 12-month, community-centered, place-based initiative. MMF aims to improve financial stability and maternal mental health by building life skills and strengthening participants' sense of

Transplant center practices that maximize access to living kidney transplantation: the Penn experience.

Living donor kidney transplantation (LDKT) provides superior outcomes for patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) but remains underutilized due to persistent barriers including donor-recipient incompatibility, financial concerns, and limited donor outreach. This study describes a center-based strategy implemented at Penn Medicine's Center for Living Donation to specifically address these challenges and expand access to LDKT. Key components included the development of a dedicated infrastructure for donor evaluation, the integration of Living Donor Navigators to guide and support donors, a

Self-esteem in crisis: Psychosocial adaptation and masculine identity among Chinese men with azoospermia.

BACKGROUND: Azoospermia affects 1% of men and 10-20% of infertile males, yet the psychosocial mechanisms underlying self-esteem impairment remain poorly characterized. Guided by Connell's Masculinity Theory and Bury's Biographical Disruption Framework, this mixed methods study examined self-esteem experiences among Chinese men with azoospermia. METHODS: An explanatory sequential design was employed. Phase 1 surveyed 216 men using Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale, with multiple regression identifying predictors. Phase 2 involved semi-structured interviews with 16 purposively sampled participants,

Qualitative study on adherence to oral nutritional supplements in cancer patients: a social cognitive theory perspective.

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is prevalent among cancer patients, and oral nutritional supplements (ONS) are an important intervention. However, poor adherence to ONS negatively impacts therapeutic outcomes. Previous studies have predominantly employed quantitative methods to investigate factors influencing adherence, with a limited in-depth understanding of patients' subjective experiences and multidimensional mechanisms. METHODS: This study adopted a descriptive qualitative design based on the social cognitive theory (SCT) framework. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 14 cancer patie

BACKGROUND: Congenital heart diseases (CHD) account for 28% of birth defects in India. Treatment options and long-term outcomes have signifi … yed treatment despite diagnosis in the remaining 72.2%. CONCLUSION: Despite substantial government financial support for treatment and diagnosis, further delays in treatment remain significant. Social factors, other than economic factors, appear to be the primary contributors to these delays. Sample size and in-hospital study limitations are acknowledged.
