Association of tcdA+/tcdB+ Clostridium difficile Genotype with Emergence of Multidrug-Resistant Strains Conferring Metronidazole Resistant Phenotype.

BACKGROUND: Reduced susceptibility of Clostridium difficile to antibiotics is problematic in clinical settings. There is new evidence indicating the cotransfer of toxin-encoding genes and conjugative transposons encoding resistance to antibiotics among different C. difficile strains. To analyze this association, in the current study, we evaluated the frequency of toxigenic C. difficile among the strains with different multidrug-resistant (MDR) profiles in Iran. METHODS: Antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the isolates were determined against me

Prevalence of antimicrobial resistance and potential pathogenicity, and possible spread of third generation cephalosporin resistance, in Escherichia coli isolated from healthy chicken farms in the region of Dakar, Senegal.

Escherichia coli is a normal inhabitant of the intestinal microbiota of chickens, a small proportion of which may be avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC) or potential extraintestinal pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC), capable of causing disease in humans. These E. coli may also be resistant to antimicrobials of critical importance in human or veterinary health. This study aims to 1) determine the prevalence of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and resistance genes, multidrug resistance (MDR), chromosomal mechanisms of quinolone-resistance and virulence profiles of E. coli isolated from healthy chicken farms

The potential of molecular testing and mutation analysis for detecting isoniazid and rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Thailand.

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) poses a significant threat, and drug-susceptibility testing (DST) is essential for effective TB treatment and control. Genotypic DST has been used for the early detection of drug-resistant TB, and the detection of isoniazid (INH) resistance is increasingly important. This study aims to determine the potential of genotypic DST using the AnyplexTM II MTB/MDR real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kit and analyze the mutations associated with INH and rifampicin (RIF) resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). DST and DNA sequencing of the katG, inhA, and r

Unveiling the antibacterial action of ambroxol against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria: in vitro, in vivo, and in silico investigation.

It is critical to find novel therapeutic approaches owing to the dissemination of multidrug resistance (MDR) in pathogenic bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus. FDA-drug repurposing is an important therapeutic tactic to fight MDR bacteria. Here, we inspected the antibacterial activity of ambroxol against clinical MDR S. aureus isolates. Using the broth microdilution method, ambroxol revealed minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 0.75 to 1.5 mg/mL. Also, it revealed antibiofilm action on 42.17% of the isolates by crystal violet assay. A scanning electron microscope was employed to

The emergence of NDM-1, IMP-7, IMP-26, IMP-62, IMP-76, VIM-4 and VIM-5 producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, identification of a novel sequence type (ST3891) and analysis of virulence genes from a Malaysian tertiary hospital.

Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a medically crucial nosocomial pathogen causing significant mortality in patients with weakened immune systems. It is sensitive to carbapenems such as meropenem and imipenem. However, recent research indicates the rise and rapid transmission of carbapenem-resistant P. aeruginosa (CRPA). This study analysed the phenotypic and genotypic traits linked with CRPA strains obtained from the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), a Malaysian tertiary teaching hospital. MDR P. aeruginosa (n = 215) were isolated from the Medical Microbiology Diagnost
