METHODS: Complete ophthalmologic and systemic examinations followed by incisional biopsy and pathological examination.
RESULTS: Two cases of myeloid sarcoma with orbital involvement were identified. Both cases presented with a clinical picture and imaging which demonstrated infiltrative orbital masses. When combined with 8 previous reported cases, 8/10 demonstrated systemic AML involvement.

Group B streptococci (GBS; Streptococcus agalactiae) are a major cause of invasive infections in newborn infants and in patients with type 2 diabetes. OBJECTIVE: To study the expression and significance of TNF-alpha, MMP-9 and their relationship with the infiltration of eosinophil granulocyte in nasal polyps.
METHOD: The expression of TNF-alpha and MMP-9 was determined in tissues of nasal polyps from 30 patients(nasal polyps group) and in inferior turbinate mucosa tissues from 10 patients(control group) by in situ hybridization and immunohistochemical technique, and the number of eosinophil granulocyte was counted in the same tissue by HE staining. Their correlations with each other were also analyzed in the tissue of nasal polyps.

We studied the effects of G-CSF on microglial reactions in mutant SOD1 (mSOD1)-Tg (G93A) ALS model mice. Following hypoglossal axotomy, the numbers of neurons and microglia expressing GDNF were significantly lower in mSOD1-Tg mice than in non-transgenic (NTG) littermates. This decrease in the number of neurons after axotomy and a decrease in the number of large myelinated axons in mSOD1-Tg mice over the disease course were improved by G-CSF, which also increased microglial recruitment. BACKGROUND: Heart transplantation is an accepted method of treatment for selected patients with end-stage heart disease. Making prolonged heart preservation safer will benefit patients awaiting heart transplantation.
