Caffeine and theophylline increased prostaglandin output from day 7 and day 15 guinea-pig endometrium in culture. Ryanodine and forskolin had no effect on endometrial prostaglandin output. These results show that methylxanthines stimulate endometrial prostaglandin synthesis. However, the intracellular mechanisms involved apparently do not entail an increase in the intracellular free concentration by activation of a ryanodine-sensitive receptor or an increase in the cyclic AMP concentration.

Pharmacological characteristics of cimetropium bromide (cimetropium), a muscarinic receptor antagonist, were studied in longitudinal muscle preparations with myenteric plexus of guinea-pig ileum. Zinc deficiency was produced experimentally in guinea-pigs fed on a diet containing 1.03 mg Zn/kg over a period of 45 days. A subchronic effect of copper on selected immunological parameters was studied in guinea pigs with experimental ascariosis (Ascaris suum). An investigation was made of the effects of histamine on the K+ concentration in the effluent in superfused guinea pig and mouse pancreatic segments. The effect of acetylcholine (ACh) was examined for comparison. Histamine evoked a dose-dependent and transient increase in the K+ concentration in the effluent (K+ release) but is less potent compared to the cholinergic agonist, ACh.
