A 63 year old lady with known ischaemic heart disease was admitted to hospital with cardiac sounding chest pain. Blood pressure was 161/80 on admission, and full examination was unremarkable. ECG showed ischaemic changes in the inferior leads, and a diagnosis of unstable angina was made. Troponin I was undetectable. She was treated with subcutaneous Enoxaparin 1.5mg/kg and an intravenous nitrate infusion. The case of a 59 year-old man with sigmoid colon cancer and synchronous liver metastases is described in this report. Sigmoid colectomy and partial hepatectomy were performed, and hepatic arterial cannulation was done for prevention of hepatic recurrence. Heparin was injected to prevent catheter-related clots, and no anticancer drugs were used. He did well without signs of recurrence for 5 years after the initial operation. Heparin analogues in low doses have antiproliferative and immunomodulatory properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of low-dose enoxaparin administered subcutaneously in lichen planus (LP). Eighteen patients with various types of LP were treated in an open study for 6-13 weeks. Efficacy and safety data were recorded. Complete remission was observed in 11 of 18 patients (61%) and marked improvement in two (11%).
