Prevalence, treatment, and outcomes of sepsis during rapid response team calls: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Sepsis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitalised patients. Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) review clinically deteriorating patients, including those with sepsis. However, the epidemiology of sepsis in RRT calls remains unclear. This systematic review synthesised evidence on the prevalence, treatment, and outcomes of sepsis during RRT calls. METHODS: Seven electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Ovid MEDLINE, and Scopus) were searched for studies published from 1 January 2015 to 31 May 2024. All articles were independently s

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on diagnosis, and healthcare utilization, among patients with cancer (lung, breast, and pancreas) and cardiovascular diseases (HF, AF, hypertensive, and chronic ischemic heart disease) in Germany: two systematic reviews.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic and related non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) (e.g., lockdowns and contact restrictions) disrupted routine healthcare delivery. In Germany, these measures affected diagnostic and treatment services for people with cancer and cardiovascular diseases, potentially delaying diagnosis and adversely influencing outcomes. We assessed whether and to what extent diagnosis, health utilization and health outcome among patients with selected cancer and cardiovascular conditions changed in Germany during the pandemic. METHODS: We conducted two systematic reviews of

Liberal Versus Restrictive Blood Transfusion Strategies in Neurocritical Care: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

INTRODUCTION: Neurocritical care patients, including those with traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage, and intracerebral hemorrhage, often develop anemia, compromising brain oxygen delivery and increasing morbidity and mortality. Blood transfusion strategies, either liberal or restrictive, are commonly used to manage anemia in these patients, but the optimal approach remains unclear due to mixed results in existing studies. METHODS: A systematic search of PubMed, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar from inception to December 2024 for randomized controlled trials (RCT

Contemporary US Practice Patterns Regarding Anticoagulation and LAA Closure in ICH Survivors With Atrial Fibrillation.

BACKGROUND: Optimal secondary stroke prevention remains uncertain for patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and atrial fibrillation (AF). Anticoagulation reduces ischemic stroke in AF but increases hemorrhage. Left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion is emerging as an alternative to anticoagulation, but few data exist on its safety in patients with ICH. Amid this uncertainty, little is known about US practice patterns in this scenario. METHODS: We performed a study using linked electronic health record, pharmacy, and insurance claims data on >11 million patients at 29 US healthcare organi
