The aim is to discuss a new method of muscle repair in midline cleft lip. Three patients with midline cleft lip were repaired with our technique of muscle repair and the results evaluated. Our new method of muscle repair in the form of 'Z' helps in forming the philtral dimple.

OBJECTIVE: To explore methods for one-stage repairing of nose deformity and alveolar cleft, as well as primary unilateral complete cleft lip.
METHODS: The nose deformity and alveolar cleft were repaired by Carstens' surgical methods, rhBMP-2 was used for correction of alveolar cleft.
RESULTS: From 2004 to 2008, 45 cases of cleft lip were treated in the United States and followed up for 3-5 years. In 2007, 10 cases of cleft lip were treated in China and followed up for 1 year. All results were satisfactory.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) is a hereditary connective tissue disorder caused by abnormal collagen synthesis and presents with classic features of hyperextensibility, fragility of skin and joint hypermobility. It has not been commonly described as being associated with cleft lip and/or palate, and a literature search has disclosed only one case (1984) of type IV EDS with cleft lip and palate. The authors have seen another case of EDS associated with cleft lip and palate. The etiology and clinical features of this syndrome are discussed alongside the clinical picture of cleft lip and palate.

Swelling of the upper lip can result from various diseases such as salivary tumors, infectious and inflammatory diseases and cysts. Among the latter, dentigerous cysts, typically involving unerupted teeth, are sometimes associated with supernumerary teeth in the maxillary anterior incisors region called the mesiodens. We report an unusual case of a large dentigerous cyst associated with an impacted mesiodens in a 42-year-old male who presented with a slow-growing swelling in the upper lip.
