The inverse triangular skin defect between lower eyelid and up lip can be repaired by cheek rotation flap. In order to preventing lower eyelid eversion, the author designed a triangular flap in the lateral canthal area which can change force bearing direction in this area. The flap can repair the defect as wide as 8 X 5 cm when the combination of bilobate flap of the posterior auricular flap and cheek flap was used. BACKGROUND/AIM: This study analyzed moesin immunoexpression in 91 lip squamous cell carcinomas and its influence in patients' prognosis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Moesin immunoexpression was evaluated at the invasive tumor front by a semi-quantitative score method. Eleven patients with oral and maxillofacial angiomas (seven hemangiomas and four lymphangiomas) were evaluated with magnetic resonance imaging using a 0.2-T permanent system and spin-echo pulse sequences. These lesions typically had signal intensities that were iso T1-weighted, similar to muscle, and high T2-weighted, greater than subcutaneous fat. AIMS: To investigate clinicopathological features and identify clinicopathological risk factors for the malignant transformation of oral and labial chronic discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) in a relatively large number of patients from China.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A total of 87 patients with clinical and histopathological diagnosis of DLE between 1993 and 2009 were reviewed retrospectively in our hospital. The average age at diagnosis was 51.7 years, with a male:female ratio of 1:1.8. The lower lip was the most common site (71.3%). We documented six DLE patients with malignant transformation.

A 17-year-old previously unreported patient with Pai syndrome is described. The boy had median cleft of upper lip, a polypoid skin mass over the columella, a minimal cleft of the upper central incisors, frontal alopecia of the anterior hairline, and bifid nose. Magnetic resonance imaging showed pericallosal lipoma. No mental retardation was present, and a chromosomal study showed normal male 46, XY karyotype.

A case of localised African histoplasmosis with an unusual presentation in a 56 year old Nigerian farmer is reported. The lesion presented as an ulcer clinically mimicking squamous cell carcinoma of the lower lip. An incisional biopsy and culture studies confirmed African histoplasmosis and the ulcer healed spontaneously without treatment. This case is reported to highlight the unusual location and clinical course of African histoplasmosis.

Marginal defects of the eyelid were repaired using skin-muscle-mucosa composite grafts from the lower lip without cartilage support in 2 patients. The method is a simple one-stage procedure and takes little time to perform. Because of the wide contact between the grafts and the recipient sites, grafting was successful. Texture and color match is not too problematic in elderly persons.
