Mast cell count (MCC) in 45 dogs with cutaneous hemangioma (HA, n = 12), hemangiosarcoma (HSA, n = 12), mammary adenoma (AD, n = 9) and mammary adenocarcinoma (AC, n = 12) was made using Toluidine blue stained sections. Antibodies against endothelial cell markers, Factor VIII and VEGF were used to visualize and determine the hot spot micro-vessel density (MVD). Total MCC and MCC along the invasive edges were significantly higher (p < 0.001) in canine mammary AC than in AD. The total MCC did not significantly differ (p > 0.05), in HSAs (8.6 +/- 3.3) than in HAs (5.5 +/- 2.8). There is a positiv

PATIENT: A case of a 76-year-old-man is reported who was referred to the department because of an increasing tumor of the right nasal cavity. After surgical treatment of the neoplasm histological examination revealed a solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) of the nasal mucosa.
DISCUSSION: Solitary fibrous tumors mostly occur as pleural neoplasms. Extrapleural locations of this mesenchymal tumor species are rarely found in the head and neck region. These extrapleural tumors are sometimes difficult to diagnose because of their histologic variability. Solitary fibrous tumors typically show intense staini

OBJECTIVE: Thymic carcinoma is a rare thymic neoplasm. It is more invasive and has a poorer prognosis than thymoma. We report our experience in the treatment of 13 thymic carcinomas.
METHODS: Thirteen patients with histologically confirmed thymic carcinoma were treated from June 1989. Six patients underwent surgery, followed by adjuvant therapy. Seven patients underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy, followed by surgery and post-operative radiotherapy.
RESULTS: The diagnosis of thymic carcinoma was achieved in six cases by a mediastinotomy, in three cases by a ultrasound-guided or a CT-guided fin

The authors describe two women with locally infiltrative neoplasms of the nipple that exhibited sweat duct differentiation. The findings are compared with those previously recorded for syringomatous adenoma of the nipple. The patients presented with firm, subareolar nodules. Nests, cords, and ducts composed of cytologically uniform squamous cells were dispersed throughout the dermis and also involved subcutaneous tissue and adjacent breast parenchyma. Small keratocysts formed a minor component of the lesions. Additional observations in the present study included connections between tumor and e

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4) hotspot mutations are linked to non-invasive intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs); however, the molecular mechanisms driving their progression remain unclear. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to identify the signaling pathways associated with KLF4 mutations and their roles in IPMNs.
METHODS: Thirty-three resected specimens of IPMNs were collected. Associations between genetic alterations in KLF4 and the expression levels of KLF4 protein as well as its related signaling proteins, including p21, p27, and cyclin D, were assessed.

RATIONALE: Undifferentiated high-grade pleomorphic sarcoma (UPS), originated from bone, is a rare tumor, accounting for 2% to 5% of all primary maligment bone neoplasms. Skip lesion can be found in undifferentiated high-grade pleomorphic sarcoma of bone (UPS-B). However, the direct invasion across the articular synovium to bone has not been reported previously.
PATIENT CONCERNS: We report an unusual case of a 65-year-old man complained of a year history of pain, swelling, and limitation of activity in the left knee joint. At the proximal tibia, there was extensive invasion of articular synovi

BACKGROUND: Adenoid cystic carcinoma comprises approximately 10% of all epithelial salivary neoplasms and most frequently involves the parotid. Perineural invasion is a common feature but intraneural invasion and spread is less common.
AIM: The authors report a case of parotid adenoid cystic carcinoma with invasion and spread via the facial nerve with an emphasis on radiologic features.
OBSERVATION: We report a case of a 47-year-old man presenting with a right submandibular mass evolving for 4 years. On physical examination, the mass was firm painless, well delineated. There was no facial pa

BACKGROUND: Perineural invasion (PNI) is a well-recognized route of tumor extension in cutaneous neoplasms. Despite an established association with increased local recurrences and metastases, the mechanisms responsible for PNI have yet to be elucidated. We hypothesize that P75 NGFR, a nerve growth factor receptor, may be implicated in the pathogenesis of PNI in these tumors.
METHODS: P75 NGFR immunohistochemical staining was performed on 47 skin tumors with PNI including invasive squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs = 29), basal cell carcinomas (BCCs = 8) and malignant melanomas (MMs = 10). These w

BACKGROUND: Fistula formation has been reported in intraductal papillary-mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs) with or without invasion of the adjacent organs. The presence or absence of invasion is mostly determined by postoperative histological examination rather than by preoperative work-up.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 72 year-old Japanese woman showed remarkable dilatation of the main pancreatic duct (MPD) in the distal region of the pancreas. Subsequent ERCP also showed MPD dilatation, after which the patient suffered moderate pancreatitis. A subsequent gastroscopy revealed a small ulceration that had not

Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs) are uncommon neoplasms comprising approximately 1%-2% of all pancreatic malignancies. They display a wide clinical spectrum ranging from indolent, well-differentiated Grade 1 lesions to aggressive, poorly differentiated tumors. While metastatic spread to the liver is relatively common, vascular invasion and tumor thrombus formation are exceedingly rare in low-grade NETs. Here, we present an unusual postoperative case of a Grade 1 PNET with tumor recurrence, kidney infiltration, and tumor thrombus involving the left renal vein and extending into the gona

Hepatic sarcomatoid cholangiocarcinoma is a rare, accounting for <1% of cases and aggressive malignant neoplasm. This report presents a case of a 35-year-old female patient who presented with right shoulder pain, general weakness, anorexia, and weight loss. Imaging studies revealed a hepatic mass in segment S8, with invasion into the diaphragm and right lower lobe of the lung. The patient underwent surgical resection, and the pathological diagnosis confirmed hepatic sarcomatoid cholangiocarcinoma. This case report discusses the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of this rare malig

There are numerous salivary gland pathologies for which robotic surgery can provide benefit. This article reviews the primary indications for use of transoral robotic surgery for salivary gland neoplasms. It also discusses transoral and retroauricular robotic approaches for pathology of the submandibular gland and prestyloid parapharyngeal space. These approaches have the advantage of avoiding a visible scar and are additionally minimally invasive in other ways as well. Robotic surgery offers advantages in several different modules of salivary gland surgery, similar to those it offers for orop

AIM: To present treatment of patients with ileocecal intussusception.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: There were 3 patients with ileocecal intussusception for the period from June 2016 to August 2017.
CONCLUSION: Abdominal sonography is main diagnostic method for intestinal intussusception. X-ray examination including contrast-enhanced irrigography gives more complete information about suspected intussusception. It is necessary to differentiate intestinal intussusception from other diseases accompanied by abdominal pain, vomiting, bloody discharge from rectum, abdominal neoplasm. Minimally invasive la

Conjunctival melanoma is a rare malignant neoplasm that can present in childhood in any part of the conjunctiva. The infrequency with which conjunctival melanoma is encountered in childhood caruncular lesions makes it a formidable but important aspect of the differential diagnosis. We report the case of a 10-year-old boy who presented with a left caruncular lesion. On histopathologic analysis, the lesion was determined to be BRAF-negative invasive melanoma arising in association with melanocytic nevus. The melanoma was excised using no-touch technique and double freeze thaw cryotherapy. A full

Paraneoplastic syndromes can be presented in multiple ways, which include endocrinological, hematologic, rheumatologic and nephrologic manifestations. While most of the publications described solid tumors as responsible for these manifestations, hematologic neoplasms are important cause to consider as part of the differential diagnosis. We report the case of a 46 year-old man with seronegative symmetric polyarthritis of large and small joints associated with membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis with deposits of immune complexes and acute impairment of renal function, as part of a paraneopl

Thymomas are infrequent, although they are the most common neoplasms in the anterior mediastinum. They are slow-growing tumors that may involve surrounding structures by direct extension. In these aggressive cases, intrathoracic recurrences are frequent. However, distant metastases are uncommon, the most common sites including liver, lymph nodes, and bones. Metastatic thymoma to the ovary is exceedingly rare, with only 6 cases reported in the literature. We report a 46-yr-old female with a metastatic thymoma to her left ovary 6 yr after the initial diagnosis of thymoma, Type B1 with pleural in

Desmoid tumors are rare, soft-tissue neoplasms that do not metastasize, but exhibit aggressive growth and local invasion. They originate most frequently from abdominal fascial structures, although they can also appear at extra-abdominal sites. The most common extra-abdominal locations include the shoulder, chest wall, back, thigh, and head and neck. In children, desmoid tumors are more infiltrative, having a tendency towards osseous involvement more frequently than in adult patients. We report acase of a supraspinatus muscle desmoid tumor in a female patient with clavicle destruction.

Chylous pericardial effusion is an uncommon entity that is most commonly associated with post-cardiac surgery, in particular aortic valve and minimally invasive cardiac surgery. Post-radiation therapy, infection, mediastinal neoplasm, lymphoma and a small group of idiopathic, spontaneous chylous pericardial effusion have also been reported as the causes. Here, we report a rare case of pericardial effusion secondary to chylous fistula in a 63-year-old man with Poland syndrome. The case highlights an unusual thoracic duct anomaly as a cause of our reported chylous pericardial effusion.

Thymoma is a unique neoplasm of the anterior mediastinum that is frequently associated with indolent growth and a variety of paraneoplastic syndromes. One third of cases are detected during the evaluation of myasthenia gravis. Classification systems of thymoma have limited ability in accurately predicting prognosis and course of disease. Thus, staging is the only way to predict clinical behavior. Encapsulated tumors that are surgically resected carry the best prognosis. Adjuvant radiotherapy is recommended for incompletely excised and most invasive thymomas. Chemotherapy in anthracycline-based

Xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder of the kidney characterised by an infectious phlegmon arising in the renal parenchyma. It is seen in patients who have urolithiasis, urinary tract infection and immunocompromised status. The clinical presentation is variable and renal neoplasm is considered as a differential due to its characteristic extrarenal visceral invasion. The treatment is almost universally extirpative and can pose a formidable challenge to the treating physician and surgeon. The authors report a rare case of XGP in a postpartal woman who
